My baby boy is gone

Jake lost his battle yesterday with the lymphoma. He survived with the prednisone for almost 5 months. We just returned from a trip and he did not respond in his usual happy, barking manner. He seemed fine when we left but the night we returned, he could not get comfortable and I noticed him trembling and walking with an arched back yesterday afternoon.

We are hurting so much right now even though in my heart I know I made the right choice. We never had to put a dog to sleep before and it was so hard. Two of our friends came with us for some support.

At home alone with my other two dogs today, I feel so empty and sad. I can't believe he's really gone and I won't feel his hot breath puffing on my face when he wants some attention.

Coming home last night from work was so hard. No big celebration of my arrival by Jake. He use to carry on for a good 15 minutes after I got home, barking, and scolding me for being gone from home all day at work; waiting for a good rub down and kisses from momma. Paris tried to console me by carrying her stuffed toys to me but it was too quiet.
