We Are So Sorry!!!!!!!
Hi,
I just read your post about your Rocky. I have a Rocky, too. I am now going through some terrible times with my Casey, an 8 year old white female boxer. I do not know if it is cancer or not, but in the last 2 weeks it has really taken a toll on her. I am so depressed, because I do not know what else I can do for her. I try to keep her comfortable, and feed her treats, to make her last days bearable.
Did the vet ever mention chemotherapy??? Bone cancer is usually a slower growing cancer, in humans patients can live several years. I once had a patient who lived for 20 years with the disease. The most common problem with bone cancer is it causes aches and pains in the bones. I do not know what it does to dogs, but please do not cry and give up just yet!!!! Rocky may live for quite a long time, and you have to keep enjoying him right now!!!! With cancer, it is very hard to predict how long the patient will live, but it is certainly not a death sentence!!!! Rocky could live for quite a long time--we never know for sure, but live each day to the fullest!!!!
I would ask your vet more details on bone cancer, and look around on the internet. From my personal experience with patients, bone cancer prognosis is a gradual disease, and, if so with Rocky, he could live much longer than expected. If he is happy, and is not hurting, enjoy him!!!! I have an 11 year old boxer, Rusty, who I did not think would last this long due to his multiple illnesses, but he is 11 years old going on 12, and doing just fine!!! I know, one day he will not be here, and I desperately try hard not to think about it. Right now I am going through alot with Casey, and am worried she may only live a few more days. She is only 8 years old, and was always the healthy one, I expected her to live forever. Now, I know time is running out, and soon I will have to make a decision. Right now, I live day by day, trying to keep Casey comfortable until I know she is ready to cross the bridge!!!!
We are all sending healing vibes to you and Rocky, keep on going, and enjoy life!!!!!!!!!!!
