Been thinking of the two of you all weekend. The loss of Semmi is still fresh...her crate is still in the kitchen and her bed still in our bedroom...so we haven't decided to move on yet. Oscar is still looking for her, but not so much. I don't know when we will move her stuff out, but I think it is going to be a little while yet. I'm letting hubby decide to do all that in his own time. This is his first loss, and so hard on him.

You are so fortunate to have had this past year with him, and that you have been able to give him comfort and love and wonderful care. Cherish each day, each hour, each minute. Their time with us is so short to begin with, and the cancer robs you of the little time you have together.

Be comforted in the fact, that THEY will tell YOU when it is time. I kept asking Semmi over and over again if she was ready, how much pain she was in, etc. All I got was a smile, a wiggly butt and her bright eyes.

But on Wednesday night, there was no smile, there was no wiggle, no sparkle at all. She was ready.

It takes so much strength to set them free, but rest assured, that when you do, you will feel that burden lift and their spirit will go on. There will be no more pain for them, no more issues. But for you, the journey is just beginning, and it takes time and effort. My Brandy, an eighteen year old mutt, passed away in 1999. I still mourn his shaggy little head.

As you know, the coughing is not a good sign with this stupid cancer. As long as you still have a dog who smiles, who wiggles and loves, all is well in their world.

We are here to offer words and support should you need them...

*BIG HUGS* to you both. I know the heartbreak...believe me.

Thanks so much for your comforting words. It makes me feel better when everyone says I will know when the time is right. I sometimes fear I am being selfish with Rocky. His tumor is so huge and at times he has trouble getting comfortable. Last night he got out of regular bed and I took his doggy bed and put it by the sofa and he was still wimpering so I got down on his dog bed with him and later I woke up and he was on the sofa and here I am asleep on a doggie bed. Some people would think I had lost my mind...lol About 4:00 am he woke me crying and wanting to get into our real bed. We have had some rough nights lately. I think of you and Semmi often...I guess because our boxers share the same type cancer. You are right it takes lots of strength to let them go. It has to be heart breaking with them not being there. This is a wonderful board...I couldn't have made it without all these great people. I have seen people on here lose their boxers and then read the joy about their new babies. I can't imagine not having one more boxer in my lifetime. They come into our lives and steal our hearts away...but isn't that what makes them so special. Thanks for keeping up with us and I hope each day gets better for you and your family....Rocky & Mom

Sending lot's of hugs and kisses to Rocky, what a strong baby.
As others have said, you will definately know in your heart when it's "time".
I can still see the vet telling us Morrissey would never get better just worse and she thought it was time to let him go, we couldn't though at that time, he still had his wiggle and wanted to play, soon though he couldn't stand up and we had to hold his head up to feed him, the next day we said goodbye, the day before we carried him outside so he could see the back yard, his favorite place, but he looked so scared and the sparkle in his eyes had gone, we knew it was time, it hurt so much to see him like that and I swear he knew what was happening and understood. I know how hard this is for you, but we did feel some sort of relief, for him, afterwards. I know one day we will all meet up with our babies again. Many hugs to you, Kate.

Don't worry, you are not crazy. I started many nights with Kiddo on the floor during the rough nights only to have her wake me when she was feeling better and ready to get in the comfy bed again. My heart is with you and your family. We are here whenever you need us. Hugs from me ,Chancey and Sev'n.

I often slept on the floor with Blizzy. You are NOT crazy. You just love that handsome boy to pieces!

He is a warrior! And when that warrior decides that the battle is done, he WILL let you know. And when that time comes, you can rest assured that Rocky had a wonderful life. He knows how much you love him and how much you'll miss him and he too will miss you and loves you.

When its time, Rocky will pick that special Soul, put it in a pup and send that pup your way! I often say, Blizzy hand picked Carson and Echo for me.

Hugs, kisses, and comfort to you and Rocky!
