I just wanted to get experiences of moving with your boxer. How did they dell with stress any regression in behaviors?? We live in a towhome currently. We are moving into a single family home with a fenced back yard the property is 1/2 acre. We are very excitied and will put in a doggie door.

I have only moved once w/my male Zeus. We had no problems w/him and moving. I have read on here that some people will take their dog over to their new home and let their dog check the place out. That way they can get use to the new sent new surroundings etc. The things that helped us out alot was trying to keep to Zeus normal schedule w/feedings and toilet breaks and also taking him on plenty of walks thur out the neighborhood as soon as possible.

I have moved with Murph and Hugo A LOT. Most recently I moved almost 6 months ago with my Boxer and Dane 1800 miles. Whether a short move, from a house to another house or across country, they have always adjusted very well. They have had familiar things with them and their people.

I think dogs generally do very well, but if you are feeling stressed they will sense it. (I think anyway.)

We have made 2 moves with Samson, Delilah and Tyra, and 1 big move with all of them, including Spike. I have not experienced an adjustment period with any of the moves with my boxers. My boxers are crate trained. I believe wherever their crates go, and wherever the people that they love go, they can adjust to and be happy with.

We've moved twice since we got Victoria -
once was just across town (from a townhome to a house) and once was across the country from the midwest to Florida.
Victoria did great with both moves, never a problem, no regression, no problems at all. She seems to be a lot more settled now than she was in our first 2 houses, but I think it's her age (20 months now) as well as the fact that we are far more 'settled' here too and the stress level is FAR less.

Either way, good luck. Make sure that you keep food/familiar toys/crates/blankets/etc with you and set that up FIRST in the new place. Vic is crate trained and it was a godsend with moving trucks and open doors and people in and out all day.

Your new place sounds fab!! Good luck!

Basil and I have moved twice in the last six months. The first time was from a house on a farm to a two bedroom apartment. The second time was from WI to VA (13 hour, 2 day car ride) into a townhouse. He adapted beautifully both times. I will say that after the first move I had to reestablish alpha status but the most destructive thing he did was tear his sleeping mat apart. He never peed or pooped and after the one incident never destroyed anything again. This last move was a piece of cake. He's great on long rides in the car and he was a very good boy at the motel.

As long as you are with him, he's knows he's home.

We lived in the same house until Cookie was 11. She didn't deal well with the move initially. One day, she tried to "go home." My brother lost track of her for just a minute or two, and she was gone. By the time he got to the end of the 1/4 mile driveway, Cookie was actually ON the 4-lane highway, heading for the old house. My brother ran out into traffic to save her. It's a miracle they weren't both killed. She eventually did settle in well, but she is never, EVER allowed off-leash outside the fenced backyard. It's a shame, because we have 32 beautiful acres of prairie and woods.

After Cookie was diagnosed with cancer last November, she has lived periodically with me in the town where I attend school. She has some separation anxiety, but generally has handled the change well. She knows that we get to go home sometimes on the weekends, so it's kind of like a vacation--she gets to be an only dog for a while!
