Emma's Mommy

Myself and my DH are moving this weekend, and we will obviously be getting our 6 month old furbaby Emma used to a new place. Any thoughts on what would be good things to do to help her feel safe and comfy in her new home? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Mine did fine when we moved in April--I was worried it would be stressful for them but I didn't see any signs of stress. I took them over to the new house a few times before the move and let them sniff around. On moving day I made sure to set up their beds, crates, and toys first in the new house so they would have a place to rest, hang out etc. If Emma seems uneasy while you are packing or moving, you could give her a really yummy bone or other chew to distract her and keep her busy while you are busy with moving.

Thank you for your advice lovemygracie!

I think maybe I'm just being a nervous Mommy and probably worrying for nothing. Since she's so young I think I'm being overprotective. I know that instead of being a worry-wart I should just let her explore things and show me what she needs through her behavior when we get there. Ahh, the anxieties of puppy parenthood.

If Emma is anything like my boys, she won't care where she as long as she's with you. I'm moving in 11 days and I haven't even thought about how the boys will react. I think they'll be so excited about their backyard that they won't even notice that we don't live next to the horrid old lady anymore.

We just moved three weeks ago. I was quite concerned about how Coco would handle the move and all. She actually did very well. I'm sure you will but be certain to take all of her toys, beds, blankeys, etc., everything she had at your old house. Having those things will help her feel more at ease because she's used to them. Definitely let her check the place out at her own speed and be sure to show her where the door for outside is. Take her out in the yard and let her check it out thoroughly as well and get the "potty spot" established. Coco was fine as long as we were together. She stuck pretty close to us all for about 10-14 days. Now she is beginning to get much braver about venturing around outside and doesn't worry about being alone in a room at the house anymore. She is settling in well. We actually did have a couple of pee pee accidents in the house which is not something she had done since she was less than 6 mos old but that can happen so be prepared for that in case. That's about all I can think of to tell you. I totally understand your concern but think you will be pleasantly surprised at how well she'll adapt.

Just like everyone said, just set up her stuff right away and just walk her around and let her check it all out. I would also show her where she needs to go to go potty a couple of times.

Good luck with the move and Baby Emma, I bet you are going to love your new place!!

I was verrrry worried when we were packing up our old place and moving to a new one, but Dakota did great! We took her over beforehand I think twice, and then her stuff was the first to get into the place so she would feel right at home right away.

Good luck!
