WAT

My Minxie is at the vet again, the third time in 2 weeks. She is rapidly losing weight. I noticed about a week ago she had stopped eating her kibble, which is not too alarming she has always been a finicky eater, and can usually be enticed back to bowl with some parmesan cheese. It didn't work, then she stopped eating her cookies, not a good sign. I noticed she had dropped a couple of pounds, and had diarreah also. I got her into the vet for a check up. The doctor ran blood work and noticed she was stiff in her jaw. He x-rayed her jaw and found some athritis. He said her blood work was perfect. He gave her a shot for inflamation and asked that I give her pepto for her runny poos. I started home cooking for her and she was loving it. But she still had the runny poos, and now they were mucousy and bloody. I took her back in, with a stool stample - which was fine - he said it sounds like colitis and gave me Sulfasalazine. This was Friday. And all I can see is Blaze all over again, we lost him in March, almost with the same symptoms and meds. The hurt is still so fresh from losing him. Over the weekend Minx started unrinating in the house and vomitting, she is back at the vet right now, he is going to do a barium on her, again Blaze had this test also. She is down to 43lbs, from 52. I am sitting here in tears, I feel in my heart I am losing her. Please send those wonderful boxer vibes and prayers out for us. I am just devasted, I can't handle losing 2 in one year. She is only 8 years old, and my first Boxer love. I am going to pick her up after 4:30 today. I will post more then unless I hear something before.

I will keep your Minx in my prayers. I am so, so sorry you are going through this. Hang in there as it could be something benign and treatable-one minute they can seem so sick and the next they can be on the road to recovery. Sending gentle boxer wiggles from mine to your sweet girl

Well - I really know nothing more than I did earlier. The vet saw that the barium moved through her system with virtually no problem, and only saw that her colon is enflamed. He saw no cancer (I don't even like saying that word) anywhere on her x-rays. He even took out Blaze's files and pictures to compare Minxie's to. He sent me home with raglan syrup to give her and wants to do another x-ray in the A.M. There was still some barium in her stomach and he wants to see if that moves out, if it does not there is a blockage, if it does move through we are back to square one. Then we wait a day to see if the raglan syrup helps at all. If the raglan does not help, it is exploratory surgery for her, again the same thing as Blaze - even the raglan syrup. I just have a bad feeling the evil "C" is there somewhere hiding from us.
I made her a plain chicken breast, and a scrambled egg, and she wants nothing to do with either. :( And now she sleeps, she just looks so frail, her back bone is sticking out and you can see every rib on her. She was always a lean dog so for her to lose a pound or two is noticable, but to lose 8 lbs, she is emaceated.
Please keep us in your thoughts, and I will post again tomorrow.....hugs....
