Have spoken with our vet this morning, and he's very pleased with Millie's progress. He's managed to get her on the lead and take her outside for a wee..Poor thing, she must have wondered why she's suddenly got this huge great weight on her leg, stopping her doing her usual mad sprints...Anyway, good news, she can come home this evening, but needs careful nursing. She's still off her food, but I'm hoping when she's settled at home she will feel more like eating.
I must say I'm quite nervous, I know how difficult it's going to be trying to keep her off the leg for the next 10 days or so..Imperative for healing, but Millie doesn't know that, I don't want her doing herself a damage..How on earth do I get her to take bed rest?..I so know I'm going to have a 'difficult' patient on my hands!

It's wonderful to hear that Millie is improving and gets to come home. I'm sure that will make her feel so much better! I have no experience with bringing home a dog in a cast, let alone a boxer, but I'm sure that she will be fine and you will have lots of stories to share with us. I once had an outside cat that broke his leg and had to be in the house in a cast. Oh my goodness - what an experience! Continued prayers and healing vibes to Millie.

When Cami broke her leg the cast didn't stop her at all! She even managed to figure out how to HIT humans with it to get attention.
They are far more adaptable than we give them credit for. The problem lies when we start feeling sorry for them and they use that to their advantage.
Hopefully she will come home with something for pain management. That will help to keep her calmer and resting comfortably.
Here is a short video of Cami with her cast on. Could have probably used some pain meds to keep her a bit calmer but vet didn't think it was necessary. I know it is totally different circumstances but gives you an idea of their mobility with a cast.

Well, Millie is at home now, and I'm so nervous, I've never seen her cry so much, she's very distressed. The vet has removed the big heavy cast she was wearing yesterday, as he felt it better that she had bandages..He's had to be very inventive on how he applied it, bearing in mind the extent of Millie's wound, which stretches around most of her leg. He's bound her up with what I can only describe as a stocking and suspender belt, the top bit goes around her stomach, hopefully keeping the main bandage in place. As I said she's very uncomfortable, and can't settle. She had a shot of metacam before we left the surgery, but she's still in a lot of pain, and I can't give her any more pain killers until tomorrow. Of course she's still not eating, I'm hoping her appetite will be back by tomorrow, as hiding her antibiotics and pain meds in her food is the only way to get her to take them..It's so heartbreaking to watch her, she looks so pitiful, and scared, I only wish that I could have the pain for her...This is going to be a very, very long night for me and Millie...Thanks again for all your good wishes, I hope the morning brings better news.

Awwwwwww the wee soul, sending her lots of healing vibes for a good recovery. What a stressful time for you all.

Just a thought, if she's staying on Metacam for pain relief, when Sophie took it for her arthritis she used to go off her food when she was on a high dose, so just something to look out for.
