Boxer Buddy
Happy New Year to all my fellow boxer lovers.
I haven't been on here in a while. 2013 was a difficult year for us. Filled not only with personal issues but our beloved George( our brindle boxer) passed away in August. It was so incredibly hard to say good bye to my best friend, and even now as I write this, I find myself crying. George was 11 1/2 yrs old and was the light of my life. He will forever hold my heart.
Back in November, my husband started to say we need to get another boxer for Max( our 4 1/2 yr old brindle boxer). George and Max never got along, and it was always a juggling act to keep them separated. I really didn't want to get another dog for a couple of reasons. The first being my concern for Max who finally had freedom of the house, and we were finally getting to see his true personality now that he was an only dog and I didn't want to chance having the same problem we had with George and Max (even though it was all George since he didn't get along with other dogs) and have to live the life of becoming a prisoner of my house again, having to keep them apart. Also, part of 2013 was my being diagnosed with lupus and not knowing if this was going to be the best decision for my health.
But so the search began! We welcomed Gretta into our family and hearts on November 23. She too is brindle. I truly believe George sent her to me. She has some of his looks and some of his quirky personality. We had tried to get a couple of other boxers before this one worked out, but I think its because we were meant to have Gretta. Max loves his new sister and the 2 of them play non stop. I am so happy my husband encouraged me to open my heart again!!
So here we are again, back on the roller coaster of life with boxers and I couldn't be happier. My heart still aches for George but I know he is happy, running around and free of pain and waiting for the day when we will once again be together. Until then, I know he is with me and watching over me and I try to find comfort in that.
