Maybe I am shallow but how do you not favor one to the other?

I am thinking of getting Max a playmate, a female boxer but how do you not favor one over the other? I have had Max almost 17 months and he is nearing two years of age. I have never had kids, and I would be afraid of favoring Max over the other. I know this sounds odd, but I am home all day and next to my fiancee he is my best friend. I was just curious.

I suppose it's like having 2 skin children, you just don't favor one over the other.

You will find they both have very different personalities and it just works out.

We had Ali for about 15 months before we got Eric & I can honestly say I love them both the same amount just for different reasons.

I'm sure you will find having 2 is easier & twice the fun & twice the love!

Oh yes....Sam is soooo right on this! I, too worried about the same thing when I chose to adopt a rescue "sister" for my Jack. Jack was just the love of my life and he and I had been through some very hard and trying times and I just knew, I would favor him over the new addition...LOL...boy was I wrong! Within days of bringing my Jaimee home, she worked her magic and wrapped me just as tight as can be around that little nub of hers and hasn't looked back yet!! Like Sam says..it just somehow works out and I love both of my babies equally and with all my heart! You will too! Good Luck!! djk

My "favorite" changes depending on who is behaving themselves! Ha ha. Everyone is right. You love them both for different reasons. In my case, Trace was my first boxer, and she will always be "Mommy's Special Girl." (In more ways than one!) Trace is that cool dog that plays ball, is outgoing and friendly, easy to teach tricks, and has SO much personality. Then Mella came along, and she is just a cuddle-pup. She is dainty where the other is a bull in a china shop. Mella plays like a kitty and bats things around with her paws. The differences are just as fun as the similarities. Enjoy the double trouble! *wink*

I have to agree with heather....you will love them for completely different reasons. I also have no skin kids to compare to but i believe the issue is quite the same. My Sasha was the first...so sweet, smart, dainty, gentle...very laid back...content to sleep as long as you are in the bed with her....Telmar on the other hand is just a big old clumsly blockhead baby full of energy...runs himself ragged when we are all too tired to play anymore....he amused himself for hours today with a new toy while Sasha had a nap....he is not the brightest thing and will look at you like YOU are nuts when trying to teach him something!
I honestly would not change a thing....but funny enough i wonder could a third steal my heart too!

Spreading the love!

You know, I expected to love Shiva just a little more - We had him first and I loved him already so much! Besides, we were getting Kali for him!

Well, Kali is just so sweet - totally different as everyone else has said - and I can't help loving her just as much!

We boxer lovers are so lucky to have such great dogs, aren't we?!?

For what it's worth, I don't want people who DO have a favorite to feel bad about it. Most of the people I know who have more than 2-3 definitely have a favorite. That's the dog whose idiosynchracies they think are sooooo cute but which they wouldn't tolerate from the other dogs :)

And some dogs are just plain more difficult than others. But with 1 or 2 I can see having a problem deciding between them.

The same is true with people -- I was Dad's favorite and my brother was Mom's favorite. They may not have loved us MORE but they loved us differently.
