Scrapper's Mom
Boxer Insane
Oh, the joys of having two Boxers and watching them play! This afternoon, Holly and Scrapper were playing their usual "keep away" with an old bitten up red tennis ball. But that didn't matter, if one had it, the other one wanted it and wanted it NOW. Holly and Scrapper were carefully going back and forth around the hammock stand in our backyard, when (--I swear this is true, Christina was there, she's my witness--) a dead bird dropped out of the sky right at our feet with a huge thud, spraying feathers everywhere. Holly looked at that dead bird, (a HUGE prize in her eyes) dropped that suddenly-boring old tennis ball, grabbed the bird in her mouth and took off running like she had won the jackpot, flat out full speed ahead. Scrapper, not to be left behind, with such a treasure at stake, took off hot on her heels. All over the yard, under the plants, over the deck, all the while I'm screaming, "Holly, come here, drop that!" Yeah, right. She stops, looks at me, gets a better grip on the bird in her mouth and takes off again. Meanwhile, Christina is just standing there, laughing, broken up
Then, I turn to the side of the fence, imagining that some of the neighbor kids must have been behind this, and yell, "Hey you, kids, who threw that bird in here?!" Of course, no one was there, the damn bird had a heart attack and just died in flight and fell out of the sky. I couldn't believe it.
Finally, somehow, Holly dropped the bird and my DH picked it up, still warm, and threw it in the garbage. Christina is wiping tears of laughter from her eyes while I am wondering "What luck! How did a bird die at that place and that time and fall in my yard right in front of my dogs??!" Holly and Scrapper want to know when the next flock is going to be flying over because they haven't had that much fun in a long time!
