Scrapper's Mom

Boxer Insane
Oh, the joys of having two Boxers and watching them play! This afternoon, Holly and Scrapper were playing their usual "keep away" with an old bitten up red tennis ball. But that didn't matter, if one had it, the other one wanted it and wanted it NOW. Holly and Scrapper were carefully going back and forth around the hammock stand in our backyard, when (--I swear this is true, Christina was there, she's my witness--) a dead bird dropped out of the sky right at our feet with a huge thud, spraying feathers everywhere. Holly looked at that dead bird, (a HUGE prize in her eyes) dropped that suddenly-boring old tennis ball, grabbed the bird in her mouth and took off running like she had won the jackpot, flat out full speed ahead. Scrapper, not to be left behind, with such a treasure at stake, took off hot on her heels. All over the yard, under the plants, over the deck, all the while I'm screaming, "Holly, come here, drop that!" Yeah, right. She stops, looks at me, gets a better grip on the bird in her mouth and takes off again. Meanwhile, Christina is just standing there, laughing, broken up  Then, I turn to the side of the fence, imagining that some of the neighbor kids must have been behind this, and yell, "Hey you, kids, who threw that bird in here?!" Of course, no one was there, the damn bird had a heart attack and just died in flight and fell out of the sky. I couldn't believe it.

Finally, somehow, Holly dropped the bird and my DH picked it up, still warm, and threw it in the garbage. Christina is wiping tears of laughter from her eyes while I am wondering "What luck! How did a bird die at that place and that time and fall in my yard right in front of my dogs??!" Holly and Scrapper want to know when the next flock is going to be flying over because they haven't had that much fun in a long time!
:)

Man oh man! Sounds like Mother Nature is practicing up for Santa's job; boxer toys delivered right out of the sky! That must have been a sight to see. Too funny (and gross all at the same time)!

Gift from God for Scrapper and Holly

God must love your babies Genie! Look what a great time they had! what i sight! i can just imagine it! :D

we had a similar "keep-away" experience once w/ Cassius and an old dried up possum skull he found while we were walking on a trail. he ran around so proud and excited for a good 8 minutes before showing mommy.. then to mommy's horror, realized what it was and kicked it away. Only to have Cassius go "fetch" it, and run around some more w/ it. Boxers, gotta love em!

It's good Scrapper did not grab on to play tug-a-bird. ;)

Ewwww! I was thinking the same thing!

Beau and Samantha would also love it if dead birds started falling from the sky!

oh my

That's hillarious!
Reminds me of my two, one evening we were walking and baby girl picks up a stick and runs, tugga chases as usual. But this time there was something different, i mean it was on, such an intense chase they haven't had in a while. As we get closer to the house, i command her to come to me and drop the stick. As she gets closer i see a tail, omg it not a stick, it's a dead decomposing squirl!!! Leave it, leave it, no response, so i had to grab hold of it and pull ....ewwww ::shivers:: ... give give, she finally gave it up. I tossed it into the bushes and they try to find it everytime we walk by now. Precious.

I gotta go wash my hands now...
lol.

Eek!

Guys, I was dying. I could not stop laughing. My stomach hurt but I could not stop. I don't know what was funnier. Holly running with the big bird in her mouth, Scrapper desperately chasing her, or Genie yelling over the fence at kids that did not exist. I was kind of getting it under control when Genie yelled: "Oh no, she just bit down on her harder----bad Holly!". That was it, my control slipped away again and I could not stop laughing.

Genie yelled for her hubby to chase down Holly since she was in her bare feet and the yard was a bit muddy (it rained for 2 days). Obviously I was going to be no help :D

The bird hit about 5" in front of both Genie and I with a loud THUD!! Small feather exploded off its body as we jumped back. Just as we were kind of figuring out what it was, Holly had scooped it up and was gone!

After hubby threw it away, Holly continued her search around the yard for her new toy. She knew she had something special :)

I had tears streaming down my face I laughed so hard. Boxers make the world definitely an interesting place :)
