Boxer Pal
Hello -

I've got a 6 year old male boxer (Kiile), and I am going to get another one....Kiile is VERY attached to me and an incredibly "needy" dog as it pertains to attention. He's had 100% of me for years and I'm concerned about bringing another dog into the family. I would like to adopt again (I adopted him), but knowing his personality, a puppy he will accept...an older dog would be a huge issue.

That said, I really want another male because I favor their tempermant, however I have never had two male dogs. Could anyone give me some advice and knowledge based on experience as to whether or not 2 male dogs will be okay together? (of course both will be fixed)

I look forward to some insight.

Thank you - Jessie

I would not do 2 male dogs. Too much risk for problems after they both reach maturity, neutered or not. Best to get a female and spay her. 9 times out of 10 this is an arrangement that works best.

I also suggest going with a female. I know most rescues will not place their boxers in same sex homes. There could be a problem with fighting and who is the "alpha" male between two males.

I agree that it's probably wisest to get a female, but what about the male disposition do you prefer?

Girl pups will run the gamut from affectionate, sweet and placid to feisty and obstinate and full of themselves. Feel free to talk to your breeder about the kind of disposition you're looking for.

Chances are that the girl WILL take charge, though, one way or another. Most boxer boys will defer to the resident gal :)
