Maggie is Getting Spayed (Long)

I think everything will be fine also. I hope everything works out so you get to bring her home where she will be most comfortable and you can put you mind at ease. Tell Maggie China is thinking about her, seeing she has to go the first of the new year for her spaying. :D

Dan, I'm sure Maggie will be fine, and we all know you're doing your best for her. I know how you feel, I was a basket case the day Ali was speyed, in fact I had the most horrible sympathy pains all day - I hope you don't suffer from them! Ali came home the same night which was a relief but also not much fun - she was not a happy puppy. I slept in the lounge with her, and needless to say, neither of us got much sleep that night - good thing I took the following day off work to look after her! Good luck on Monday - we'll be thinking of you.

I picked up Jazmine last night-she wagged her tail a little, but was still groggy. I felt horrible! She threw up twice in the office-they said that was normal. But she looks alot more thin now. I know they took all her female organs out-she just looks diffrent to me. Did anyone notice that in their female boxers?
Well, we were glad she was home last night. We put a comforter on the floor in the living room where she slept all night. My husband stayed in the living room with her all night. She got up once-then he put her in my bed. She slept for 2 more hours when she got up again-at about 2:00 when she finally went to the bathroom outside! Then she went back on her comforter to sleep the rest of the night. She looks so sad, with her wrinkle forehead. It just breaks my heart. I can't wait til she starts to feel normal!

Dan, I know how you feel, it's hard to send our loved ones off for a surgery. I didn't realize that until the day Debo went in - I worried about him all day. I picked him up later that night. I was such a worry wart, I called twice. The girls were real nice at the vet and answered all my questions. I would say that it's good to leave them there overnight, because all that night after he got home, Debo was soooo tired, the look on his face was classic, eyes droopy, ears down, he was such a tired puppy! But it was hard to keep him laying down, if someone rang the doorbell, he would get up, I had to put a do not disturb sign on the door.

Anyway, all will be well with your Maggie! It's completely normal to spaz-out when are babies are going to get even the smallest procedure done! Keep us posted on her recovery when she comes home on Tuesday!

Dan, I know what you are going through. I had to get Shirley spayed just 4 days after I adopted her...I was so worried, but she did just fine though and actually recovered very quickly. I'm sure Maggie will come through with flying colors!

I know how you feel. When Scout was spayed in July at 6 months, I was a basket case too! LOL. She went in for the surgery at 8:30 and I picked her up that afternoon at 5:00. She didn't eat that night (which is normal) and drank a few sips of water and basically kept to herself. She was groggy that night and for part of the next day, and despite being a bit sore and stiff for a day or two, she required no pain medications. After two days, she was practically back to normal, eager to romp and impossible to keep still LOL. Just be sure to check the incision daily for signs of acute redness, puffiness or pus (signs of infection) and try to distract her from bothering the stitches too much. Scout healed very quickly and with no complications, and I'm sure your Maggie will do just as well. Good luck and keep us posted!

Just post-spaying or neutering, do the pups have to wear that "lampshade" head gear? Those things are awful! Sure, it could make for some cute pics, but the poor things!

Lisa,
When I had Purdy spayed, she looked pathetically thin afterwards. I brought her home the same night, and she was pretty groggy. She recovered very quickly however, and looks normal today, 2 years later.
I think the thinness is from having no food or drink, and being shaved. Don't worry, she'll be bouncing around in no time, and regaining her beautiful figure.

Dan I know what your going through. Anytime a dog goes "under" it's a risk, but mine have been under plenty and never had any problems!
When Tigra Marie had her spay several years ago, she was dopey that day but was running around like a maniac the very next day she will be fine and don't you worry yourself to much....... Does she really have to stay overnight though? That seems excessive to me, I would not want that..... I brought both of my dogs home the same day.


ask your vet about that. I think Maggie Mae would be better off at home with daddy.
