OMG thats so awful, I bet it was very scary too! since I live in NE also, although I'm not a native New Englander. I moved here from Ca I had never heard of such an animal before moving here, and was warned by neighbors about thoes nasty mean Fisher cats.. because they have a very bad tempers. and are extrememly vicious will attack and are relentless in stopping. usually they attack pets more then humans, but I think the one you incountered was coming after you too.. Like you said good thing you had on those DR Marten shoes is Right!! Plus Brave little Mabel lovicon was such a brave girl protecting you. And you her, Just another wonderful thing to add to the list of Many on how great Our Boxers truly are.

That is awful! They sure are nasty looking and sound very viscous. From what I just read it is their mating season and they are noctornal, so be careful!!! I am glad she was there to protect you and that she wasn't hurt too bad. That is just terrible. Give her a hug from Duke and I. We are sending healing vibes your way.

I am so sorry you and your sweet little girl had to go through such a traumatic experience. Who would ever think that a wild animal would be that agressive! My family and I are praying for Mabel's recovery!

We're so sorry to hear about Mabel, hope she'll be back to herself real soon.

We have fishers in our area, (called Marten's in Canada), and it is not uncommon for them to dine on stray cats, but I've never heard of one attacking a person (or large dog) before... this fisher must have been sick?

... would like to mention that a boxer in my home town died from injuries inflicted by a racoon ( although died of infection and lack of medical treatment, very sad story! )... so becareful of the wildlife.

I'm glad that Mabel is doing ok.

I grew up in Northwestern Wisconsin and fishers are quite common up there and I have seen a number of them in the woods. If you do a search on them they are actually able to catch a red squirrel in a tree and rabbits are there most common prey. I would have to say that they most closely resemble a wolverine (although slightly smaller).

I hope Mabel heals up and you should make sure and let the DNR know about the incident because the fisher should be very afraid of people and run away from dogs.

we had some of those things loose around here a few years ago. There were warning signs posted everywhere to watch your pets and children. A few little dogs were victims..and some dead raccooons and stray cats were attributed to them too. They wild things im telling you. Ive never seen oen though and hopefully I never will!
