Update ....

Well it has been almost a month since my last update. Until now Joey has done so well and didn't really have changes in activity, eating etc. Sadly things aren't so well. They aren't terrible BUT he definitely sleeps most of the time now but still has some moments of energy spurts where he will dig out a toy and play for a few short minutes. Most all of his lymph nodes are swollen, the one in his groin area is the worst, it is about the size of a small orange. The 2 nodes in his neck/shoulder area are about the size small eggs :( the nodes under his jaw are now getting larger as well. We upped his dose of prednisone for a while but didn't seem to help with the swelling of the nodes so we went back down to 20 mg a day because the side affects weren't worth it. His breathing is pretty heavy but not at the point of being uncomfortable at this point.

Having said all of that I know the time is coming that I will will have to make THE decision and I LOVE him enough to know when that time comes BUT we are not there yet. We are truly just living every day, day by day with him and enjoying the little things that we know we will so sadly miss. We bored him at the vet every day while we are at work ( cause he cant go more then an hour at a time without having to pee and we work to far from home to come let him out that often) otherwise we spend every minute with him snuggling and cuddling. I talk to him and tell I'm how much he means to me and how much he has taught me about unconditional love. Funny thing is he acts like he knows what I am saying, he kisses me as I speak like he understands. THESE ARE TRULY CHERISHED MOMENTS.

I hope my few and far between updates can give some knowledge to anyone facing or going through this horrible disease.

So sorry to hear your baby is not doing well. It's so hard but you will make the right decision for him when the time comes. :'(

Joey has done so well! There is a determined and loving heart in your boy. I know the heartache you're going through, but am sure you'll make the right decision when it's time. Joey will let you know, too. I'm glad that in the meantime you are taking every minute you can spare to be with him. These are precious moments.

We still miss our Gus tremendously and think about him all the time. I've got to say it's a very different feeling when disease takes a friend early as opposed to old age as happened with my first boxer Stan. Nevertheless, we go on and dwell in our great memories of him. With a gentle push from my wife, I gave in and we got a new boxer pup last week named Trudy. She is a check (white with markings) female who is an absolute sweetheart and helping us all to heal with her wiggles and kisses. I'll post pix one of these days.

Best of luck with Joey. Give the boy a scratch on the chin and a knuckle rub in his ears for me and let him know that Gus is waiting for him when he's ready. All the best, mom. - Jason

This whole post made me cry happy and sad tears!!!!!!

I know you know all to well what is going on and what we are facing. Thank you for your continues encouragement and support. It means the world. We are at a point of not knowing right now.... Tonight was the first time EVER that Joey hasn't been beside himself to eat.... He ate a little but then lost interest so I gave home some sardines (in water not oil) which is his fav and he ate that up ravenously! Since then he has done nothing but sleep.. That is all he does is sleep. He doesn't seem to be in pain so .... I don't know.....

I honestly have talked to Joey about Gus many times so he will be on the look out for him!!!
Gus can show him around! ((((((( tears tears tears)))))))

I AM SO HAPPY YOU HAVE ANOTHER BOXER FUR BABY!!! THIS NEWS MAKES ME SMILE, SMILE , SMILE. ( and I need a smile right now). I know Gus will never be replaced or forgotten but the presents of a sweet boxer puppy is AWESOME!!!!!I can't wait to see some pics.

I've been thinking about you and Joey so much. I know there is nothing I can say that really helps but know that you both are in many, many people's thoughts.

And many hugs to Gus's Folks, too. :( So glad there is a new, sweet cutie to help you heal.

OMG I just realized what "the knuckle rub" is. WE DO THIS ALL THE TIME in his ears and it makes Joey "sigh" a big ole breath each time. I can't believe I didn't catch this the first 10 times I have read and re read your kind words. Funny I never thought of any other boxers doing this..... Maybe I will start a thread elsewhere and see if others do this lovicon

I will always think of u and Gus now when we do the KNUCKLE RUB!!!!!

Joey lost his battle

With a very heavy heart I had to help my sweet precious boy to the rainbow bridge today. He fought this horrible disease as long as his body let him. My heart is completely broken. Bf and I are beside ourselves with grief. The tears just won't stop flowing.

Thank you to those who have followed and said kind words as well as prayers.

Life will not be the same with out Joey. I am blessed to have had him for 6 1/2yrs and cherish each and every moment, each and every memory.
