Lost puppy due to vet's negligence

So sorry to hear about your puppy. It is such a tragic lost at any age. It is true you probably signed a paper to release the vet since that can happen to your puppy. My last boxer almost died on the table from the sedative. Cannot use the ACE kind of sedative on boxers. He later used only valium for a sedative and he was fine. I would in the future request the valium for a sedative and make sure the vet know about boxers and sedatives.There are general information websites about it.
Hope you find a puppy soon so you can have some comfort from him.

It saddens me to read about your loss.
My angle on this is, you took the puppy to the vet, and obviously the vet found the puppy healthy. Hours later, after being treated, the puppy was gone.
Perhaps there was something wrong beforehand, that the vet did not find (unlikely), but there is always a possibility. We are talking about a young puppy. But then, what if the vet did make a mistake?
I am concerned about what sort of response you did receive from the vet when you told them that the puppy had passed away. I am also concerned about whether or not they asked you to bring it in so they could determine what had happened to it.
I am also having a difficult time understanding why the vet did not tell you to bring the puppy back in when you called with your concerns. After several calls, I would think that they would have taken notice and been concerned themselves.
I am not sure I would sue, but I would persue for more information.
Please let us know how all of this works out for you. I hope you can find peace again (no depression) soon.

I agree with Sashamom. I know that you can file complaints to the medical board for medical doctors negligence & to the dental board for dentists so I would bet that you could file a complaint with the veterinarian board or whoever licenses veterinarians. They would also be able to tell you in more detail what steps you can take to pursue this if that is what you wish to do. I would do a search on the internet under "veterinarian board in new york". It should pull something up for you. I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you can get some closure from all this soon. Good luck finding another puppy to give your love to.
I think the title to your post says it all: "Lost Puppy Due to Vet's Negligence." I truly believe if you called the vet's office twice and was blown off both times, the vet is negligent and should reimburse you the cost of your pup. I feel terribly sorry for your loss and hope that you find another pup very soon.

Thank you so much everybody for your thoughts and prayers.It was not the owner of the clinic that blew me off but a vet who works for him. When the owner came in on Monday, he called me right away to say how sorry he was and to ask exactly what happened. He agreed that if it was him on call he would have definately told me to come in, which I believe...he is a great vet. The other vet who wouldnt see my baby called me about 2 hours later and left a message saying that she was so sorry and that based on his symptoms she really didnt think there was a problem. That's b.s., what more does a vet need to hear other than lethargic and pale gums to think that MAYBE there's a problem that should be attended to. I thought about doing an autopsy,but I looked into it and found that the closest place that does it would be Cornell and I couldn't think about driving 3-4 hours at the time. I called him back on Tuesday to ask him what he's going to do for me: He obviously can't bring my puppy back and he certainly can't to anything for my pain, but I do expect him to reimburse me financially. It should not have to come out of my pocket to get another puppy. He didn't sound like he expected to do that but we suggested he think about it, call his insurance company and we'll talk again in a few days. In the meantime, I do have 2 puppy possibilities that I'm working on. One is currently 6 weeks old and the other is a litter that was born a week ago, and the people I bought my puppy from get pick of the litter so I may get one of those. But I'm not sure I can wait 7 more weeks for another puppy. Oh boy, this is getting quite long winded. Thanks again everybody for your wishes.
