This is the first time I've had just one boxer. I have always had a male and a female. I wouldn't allow my female to get pregnant. Didn't want any pups. I won't get them fixed though. Right now I have a female. I wanted to get a male, but have been putting it off for some time now. I have been looking for an older male (6 months to a year old). I don't plan on getting one thru a shelter for the above reason.

I do not understand why you would not want an animal fixed. If an animal is spayed/neutered it will prevent a lot of unwanted behaviors, plus the health benefits are a huge plus. With boxer being more prone to cancers, I would think you would want to lower this risk.

You could say the same thing for humans. Maybe you should be fixed to prevent cancer in your body. I know that sounds crazy....but I am sure if your dog could make the choice, he'd say no.

I can see you are very much against spaying & neutering, and you really shouldn't be. You have to remember that animals age quicker than humans. Animals don't care if they are spayed/neutered. You are trying to put too much emphisas on your own personal feelings into this.

You would be surprised at the number of animals that end up developing cancers or other health related illness because they were not spayed/neutered. (I worked at a vet clinic until very recently).

For your information.....I am *spayed*....because of health problems that developed, as I have gotten older. It was the best surgery I could have had!

I have to say I am very much behind spaying/neutering myself. Everyone has the right to their opinion, but not only are there increased health risks and some unwanted behaviors but what if your dog got out or got away from you for even a few hours? There could very well be a litter of puppies somewhere down the line that will end up in a shelter or dead. Please don't think I'm saying you aren't a responsible pet owner, but things happen.

Accidents happen and the only fail safe way to have two unaltered dogs without pregnancy is to have them, or at least one of them, fixed. I know many people who felt the same way and ended up with puppies and learned the hard way.

Also as mentioned earlier there are many health risks involved without neutering and behavioral issues. If there is no plan too breed then why put the dog at risk? Boxers are particularly prone to testicular cancer when they're not neutered. You can also prevent many undesirable behaviors by altering your pet.
