We took Max to SuperPet yesterday to let him choose his new toy and get an idea on what to buy him for Christmas. While there, I was looking at jackets for dog's because Max is really in need of one. Especially here, where winters can be pretty harsh...

When we got to the jacket section, there was a man in his 50es who told us that his Boxer is in the car in front of the sotre, and he would love for Max and him to meet. Off course we agreed... I'm always happy to see other Boxers and so is Max! He loves the attention, and all the fun he can have with another Boxer.
When we came out of the store the man was waiting for us... And he had a huge Boxer on his leash. Tyson was beautiful, and had the most georgeous face... But there was something that told me to stay away. Believe it or not, he was very, very rough on Max when they started playing. I know that Max can take some abuse from other dogs, because I see the way he plays with his buddies in the park... But this time he just walked away and stayed behind my hubbys legs so Tyson couldn't get him.
I've never seen Max so scared of another dog... We decided to head home, since he wasn't into playing with Tyson anyway. It made me wonder... The owner said that Tyson is a rescue and that he has changed owners 3 times in the last year, because he was just too much to handle. I could agree with that... He was bouncy, and rough... but it was more for attention than anything else.
The man kept on talking to my hubby while I was in the car with Max, and told him that our baby is too thin for a boxer and that we should start weight training him...(???) I don't take crticizim of my baby very well... but I was just petrified when the man said how he's "training" his dog.
He ties weights to his paws and neck and makes him run... He ties ligher weights to his neck and makes him swimm ( I can only imagine how cold the water has to be this time of year!) etc. I called Greg in the car and we drove off, but I'm still confused as to how to feel about all this. Any opinions?

!!!!!!!!

Opinions? Oh i have OPINIONS! If you can i'd report him! It is WAY to cold for them to be swimming (at least it is here) and with WEIGHTS? tied around his NECK? Is he on crack? Making him run with all those weights too, what a horrible person! I'm in shock. I don't know what i would have done if i'd heard that. I'm glad Max didn't get hurt. Poor Tyson. that makes me angry and sad for him..swimming with weights....some people...maybe he should tie some weightsa round his neck and go swimming....see how much fun it is.

I can't believe it...that's so....shocking.

I, too, have run into idiots just like this. I hate to hear about people treating their babies this way. I know of someone that is doing this and worse to their pitbulls to make them beefed up. I have reported them to the humane society and just waiting to see what happens, probably nothing since they have food, water and shelter, that is one law I would change if I had the power to do it.

 Dogs don't need weight training! Sedentary lazy humans do!!! I CAN'T believe this guy! I hope someone ties a rock to his neck and takes HIM for a swim.

OMG!!! How could someone do that to a poor defenseless baby???smashicon
I'm sooo glad that Max didn't get hurt and I feel so bad for Tyson to be in that kind of environment. That guy needs fitted for a pair of cement shoes-then see if HE can swim with weights. He doesn't deserve any animal let alone a boxer baby.

I'm gonna go give my babies an extra hug right now.

Why does he care that the boxer is 'beefed up'? I would be worried about how he uses the dog too. I know that people who dog fight probably keep their dogs locked up, but still! You get a dog to enjoy and love and to spoil, not to put through weight training!

That's what I though... I never heard about "weight training" a dog!!! Now I'll know what to do if I ever see him again... I'll report his ass!
