She only has like one more day of the antibiotics, but I was under the impression like humans one of the biggest mistakes is stopping antibitoics until all the pills are gone. That it's the main reason antibiotics don't end up working later on

You had her spayed before her first heat? I thought since she had puppy vaganitis that it would be better for her to have her first heat, but I guess what your saying is it doesn't make any difference?

I cannot be 100% sure it's puppy vagainitis as I'm not a vet and never saw the lab results, but the vet said it was puppy vaganitis and she has green/yellow stuff from her vaginal area after she pees. I don't think she has it if she doesn't pee, but then again I'm not examining her all the time, except after she pees I've been cleaning it off.

From what I've read online if that's what it is it will probably continue either until she's spayed OR has her first heat. Nothing on there said that they needed to have a heat cycle, it was an either or thing.

I wish you the best, and I just want to say, I commiserate with the problems re: there not being enough hours in the day, and how it can be difficult getting a dog, and then realizing that your schedule is not as static as you thought it was. When I got my puppy, I was working 9-5 and was sharing an apartment with my girlfriend, who worked similar hours nearby. Well, her company went under, she had to move back to Houston, and while I live 10 minutes from my office, an outside work project I'm involved in has unexpectedly gone into overdrive, leaving me with little uncommitted time, and no one to help me out with the dog.

It kinda sucks, but I guess life can be like that sometimes.

One thing I would say to keep in mind is that your dog needs mental as well as physical exercise. I can pretty much wear my dog out, and he'll still go crazy later, if his day has been restricted to laying in his crate, going on a walk, and then just hanging out in the house. How boring is that, to be locked up pretty much all day long, and just get a half hour of walking, and maybe chase a ball for a bit?

I don't know if you can take your dog to a dog park, what with all of the medical issues you've got going on with her, but I've found that to be a great way to get my guy tuckered out on days when I just don't have it in me to take him on an extended hike. I can take him to the big park downtown, and just sit and chat with other dog owners as he runs around and has a great time. It's a lot of fun, especially for him, but for me as well.

I also teach him tricks. I'll use bits of cheese or freeze dried liver as treats, and train him to do stuff on command, working in short five minute bursts. Maybe while watching a TV show, I'll work on the trick during commercial breaks. I started with sit, down, drop it, and stay, but shake is a good one, if I say "crucio!" he flops on his back, and if I say "loop the loop!" he makes a figure 8 around my legs. That stuff all exercises his brain - he knows I have a treat, he wants it, he has to figure out what to do to get it. He's thinking hard, trying to figure out what this game is, and that's much more of a break from his crate time than trying to figure out how to nab something out of the trash can.

And there are still those days when I'm in meetings at work and can't make it home, and then have obligations in the evening, and I'm torn up knowing that my loving pet has been locked up for most of the day. There's no real solution for that. I just try and make it up for him the best that I can. If I'm tied up on Monday and Tuesday, my dog is going to have an awesome night on Wednesday. And I'm going to steal as much time as I can on Monday and Tuesday to make things bearable for him.

She does tricks everyday. Well she can of course come, sit, shake, laydown and now she spins around in a circle for food. I do this with her everyday and she seems to love to do tricks. She has a hundred toys she plays with, some for chewing, but a lot of them seem to be mental and she has fun it seems.
Sometimes she does seem bored, but I do try my hardest to spend all my free time with her and to play with her as much as possible. If there's any mental toys out there I probably alreayd have them for her, but she does seem to get bored fast or maybe she's a little too spoiled. But I have found working for treats and doing tricks she really really enjoys.

Correct. But in the case of puppy vaginitis, it does not clear up no matter how strict or aggressive you are with antibiotics, they aren't going to work anyway.

You heard that from your vet too I'm guessing? ;) Puppy vaginitis is usually cured by whatever comes first -- spay or heat cycle. Caney is proof of that (and I'm sure there are many others).

I've never heard of needing lab results to diagnose puppy vaginitis. My vet simply looked at Caney and diagnosed it.

Roxy has it all the time, it is just more obvious after she pees because the urine flushes out whatever discharge is in the urethra at the time. She probably licks herself to keep clean the rest of the time. Try using baby wipes or a damp cloth to wipe her throughout the day so that she's less likely to clean herself. Obviously nothing you can do about it while you're at work, but when she wakes up in the morning, after she goes out to potty, and whenever else you're with her and happen to think about it... well, do. :)

I know you've mentioned several times about wanting to switch vets... I think maybe now is the time :) I'm sure any other vet you find will be able to continue Roxy's ivomec treatments just as well (if not better) than the vet you're using currently.

Yes I would have to 100% agree on the switching vets. Not sure why you continue to give them your money and support their business. ?? In the meantime with other issues she's receiving what seems to be from what you've said, sub par care.

Thanks for the info
I don't know what it was, but I thought I read that their first heat, their parts move around or something happens that changes the situation, so it's why I thought I couldn't get her fix before her first heat
Thanks for letting me know

I don't know about puppy vaginitis but I did get Coco spayed at 6 months. I haven't had any problems with her other than her vomitting the whole night when I brought her home from the vet after her surgery. In fact my vet charges more if they had their first heat cycle. (why?...:shrugs: I don't know) In fact I was a little relieved I would not have to go through that whole experiance, watching her like a hawk and the bloody discharge, etc. It was just one less thing for me to worry about.

She's sick right now with red manage and it's going to be awhile before I even get her the rabies shot she needs. If the time in between waiting to make sure her immune system can handle it and if she doesn't have her first cycle by then, Ill get her spayed.
If she has her cycle then I can't do anything about it.

I picked up an 8 length by 8 feet width dog pen that I put Roxy in during the day. So she can sleep and at the sametime play around with her toys, even though I come home during lunch.
I setup a web camera, which is streamed to the web and at the sametime the data is being saved to my servers. So I can watch days and days of video or watch it from the web live.
Roxy sleeps or lays down the entire time we're gone except for maybe 1-2 hours max. I put differnet toys in there for her each day, but she still sleep probably 14 hours a day.
She sleeps it seems about 7 hours at night when the family is sleeping and then she sleeps another 7 hours throughout the day when we're gone.
Now she might be bored with her toys and nobyd else around, but I guess my point is that if she's in a crate or this large play pen it hasn't made much of a difference.

She loves playing with other dogs a lot. I took her two days ago to my parents house who have an american eskimo and she would play with him for hours and hours that the american eskimo was looking for a place to hide, because he was just too tired. We started to feel bad for the american eskimo that we actually seperated them and put them in seperate rooms, because Roxy didn't know when to stop and take a break. She just get so excited to play with other dogs.
But she exhausted herself out so much that while inside in the cold AC she was breathing so hard with her tonque out.

But she is still a puppy and puppy's need alot of sleep. :) Most six month old pups sleep 16-18 hours aday. So I think she is being normal sleeping so much.

I didn't realize that she slept that much, so I kind of regret being all worried about her being in the crate all day. Now that she has room to move around within 8 feet by 8 feet, she still prefers to sleep most of the time or needs to sleep most of the time.
If she is sleeping about 7 hours when we're sleeping, then if she sleeps another 11 hours I'm not sure if makes a difference if she's roaming around the house, in a dog pen or in her crate, because at most it's 1 or 2 hours.

There's been days I've seen that she is sleeping the entire time I'm not there. Maybe it's 7 hours at night when we're sleeping, then it seems she knows when I'm about to get there and after I leave she is up for a little while, which is about an hour probably in total.

I actually feel a lot less guilty about having her in her crate before and I think I actually over reacted, especially since now she has all the room she needs and I have a video camera to watch her as well.
