Limping/wont use rear leg

Hi all. I havent posted in a while. Have been so busy moving. Mason started limping yesterday. He is favoring his rear right leg. He wont put alot of weight on it and he wont lay on it either. We have looked the leg and foot up and down and cant see anything. We have also pushed, pulled, poked and whatever else you can think of and he isnt showing any pain but since he isnt using it then I would think that there has to be some kind of pain. I am giving him the weekend to get better then if not I will call the vet. Does anybody have any ideas of what it may be? Any help would be great. Thanks so much.

I would give him a couple of days to get better and if he doesn't take him to the vet. I hope he is feeling better soon.

I just posted a thread similar to the problem Mason is having, except it was Duke's left rear leg.

I took him to the vet on Monday and they did several x-rays. The vet decided that it was a torn or stretched tendon in his knee. They gave him some pain medicine and an anti-inflammatory. Within a half hour of getting home from the vet he acted completely normal. I am also supposed to keep him quiet for a week. But, when I touched it it hurt him.

I hope Mason feels better soon! I wish I would have waited one more day before taking him to the vet. Of course I can say that now since I know what it is. But on Monday I was really worried about him! :) Keep us posted! Maybe we can get Duke and Mason together some time!

Please, please take your vet's advice seriously.
Mack has had 3 knee surgeries (all of them cruciate ligament/meniscus related) and if I had UNDERSTOOD what well-meaning people were telling me......I would have kept him completely quiet for the weeks it would take to heal the first injury (playing on the beach with his little Lab girlfriend).
If there is a ruptured or torn cruciate ligament....the body will work overtime to strengthen that injury. The way the body does that is with "arthritis". It sets up very quickly, can rapidly become crippling and "un-fixable".
If your dog has been given medication for pain and inflamation - he/she is going to seem "much improved". It's the medication "talking" - the injury is still at work.
Been there, done that....hope you don't have to go through it.
You might want to take a look at the Yahoo Orthodogs Messageboard - the majority of people there are going through CL injuries and surgeries.
You have to "join" - but it's worth it and a treasure trove of info.

I have a Duke too! lol. That would be great if we could get our boys together. That would be alot of fun. I tried to private massage you and couldnt for some reason. try to pm me so we can chat.

Also thank you all for the information. I will keep you posted on what happens.
