Thank you for the update on Jade. I'm glad you got her in to be seen. Poor baby girl, I hope she is doing better soon. Chiropractic is a very good option - please let us know how that goes. I agree with BoxerMommieNAZ re researching Rimadyl. There are threads in this forum about it. Continued healing vibes going out to Jade. Please keep us posted.

I am so sorry to hear about Jade. My boxer, Markus had spondylosis. It does seem odd that Jade's symptoms came on so suddenly. I really wonder if something else is going on. I would definitely do some research on Rimadyl. It can cause a lot of problems. I used to use Metacam with Markus and it worked really well and as it was a liquid, you could easily adjust the dose as needed. I think it was more expensive than Rimadyl, but worth every penny.

Well today Jade is feeling much better. She keeps trying to wrestle with my golden which is going to be fun to keep her from doing that. At least in the winter they do most of their wrestling in the house because Jade really doesn't like the cold, and that makes it easier for me to control it this way so she doesn't hurt herself. I'm so nervous about giving her the Rimadyl now, I did give her one late this morning and since she's doing so much better I won't give her another today and then talk to the vet tomorrow. Because it's an anti-inflamatory medicine also, I'm wondering if even though she is doing so much better that I need to continue to give her medicine for that reason or if I can just stop giving it to her and not get anything else. The vet she regularly sees was on vacation this week so after he comes back I can talk to him more about everything because it's still weird how she had a fever also and he is really good with every concern I have about my babies. I'm just so happy to see my baby acting like her silly old self again.

I wouldn’t discontinue the meds since they are obviously helping. Most dogs receive this medicine with no ill effects. As others mentioned Metacam is an alternative so if you want to switch call your vet and ask for that. But keep in mind there are risks associated with every drug. Rimadyl is probably the most prescribed pain med out there (and that is why there are more reported incidences of side effects… its relative). Also the dogs that suffer side effects from it are usually dogs that already have compromised organs (kidney & livers).
You have to take the advice on here with a grain of salt. No one on this board is a veterinarian and people’s opinions are based on antidotal experiences. The bottom line is if you are concerned then discuss it with your vet. Your vet will have more knowledge and also knows your dog’s medical history so he can help you make a more educated decision.
