Leaving my baby alone

If you've got a neighbor willing to "check in" on him while he's in the yard, why not give the neighbor a key and ask him/her to go over several times a day for play, potty and feeding -- maybe even have the neighbor house sit for you, too (so your pup is not left alone at night)? I don't know if you trust your neighbor enough, but he/she may be willing (and you could always offer to pay him/her for it).

Disneyland

I just came back from Disneyland (drove) and took Bugsy with us. We stayed at a Red Roof Hotel (dog friendly) and took her to the park with us. They do have a very nice kennel called the Purina Kennel Club. They make you sign your dog in and out for potty breaks. To top it off it only cost $10 a day. That's not bad when you are talking about the safety of your baby.

I wouldn't recommend keeping your dog at home because there are so many things that could happen when they are left alone.

Another option is to look in the phone book for a pet sitting service. There are several reliable pet sitting services in my area and I'd much rather do this than leave my pups alone. I'm sure there are some in your area, too. That way, your puppy would be in his own territory and would not have to deal with the added stress of being in an unfamiliar area without you. Do you know your neighbors well? If so, see if any of them has a teenaged or college aged friend/relative that might be willing to house/pet sit while you are gone.

I never knew you could take your pet to Disney--how awesome is that?? And $10 a day is supercheap. I say a big raise is in order for the pet-lover who thought up that great idea---and who obviously wanted their baby nearby to keep an eye on them. Guess your dog might as well experience Minnie, Goofy, Mickey and the gang too along with the family!!

Don't worry about putting your baby in the kennel, mine loves it! they know her there so well, and she is always happy to go! someone said that boxers need to be with people and I agree, the kennel is not so bad. I let a friend stay at my house for a week with my girl while I was on my honeymoon. although my boxer was healthy and happy when I got back, apparently there had been some problems while I was gone. the front door was help wide open for a while and my girl went outside to inspect things for a while, then she was not crated at night like i asked them to (i don't crate her at night when i'm home but i thought it would be better for them to do it) she got into the trash that was left in the middle of the kitchen and then they spanked her for it! Hello, she is a dog, dogs like trash! I would go with the kennel, the only person i trust with my dog is the kennel and my own mother!

I would look into kennels...or doggie daycares. They really aren't that expensive for what they offer...and IMHO are better than boarding at the vets...where they're crated for the majority of the day, and really only get to go out a couple of times for potty breaks. And unless you have someone that you can absolutely trust with your life...then don't trust them with your dogs life. Meaning, I wouldn't leave them home, and rely on them to come feed and give them outside time everyday. That's a huge responsibility, I have friends who *say* they'd be willing to do it...but I prefer to put my boys in a *country club*. And I definitely wouldn't leave them outside, and have a friend or neighbor come to check on them. The possibilities of what could happen are endless, and it's just overall too dangerous. Um… I would seriously re-consider leaving my dog at a “daycare” where just anyone can drop off their dog for the day.

The “sleepover camp” I’m taking Xena to when I go on vacation is run by a lady who quit her job to buy a farm to start a cage-free kennel for dogs. They actually sleep in her bedroom a night All of the campers are temperament tested and must have a vet certificate to stay there.

I’d much rather have my dog in one of these facilities and miss her for a week then worry about her safety all day when I’m playing at Disney Land.
