Leaving my baby alone

Hey friends, I need some suggestions. My baby "Jackson" just turned 12 weeks old. My family is planning on leaving for vacation in April to go to Disney World. (He'll be 6 months old by then.) I'm having a hard time not wanting to leave him here, but bringing him with us is not an option. I'm dreading the idea of placing him in a kennel at our veternairian's office. I have no one that I can bring him to their house for that week. However, I can leave him in my fenced in yard and let my neighbor come and feed and water him. Jackson is used to being in the house the majority of the time. I am afraid of something awful happening to him while I'm gone.....like him turning up missing, being lonely and not wanting to eat, sleeping outside for a week, bad weather, etc.... Can you relate? I know I will not enjoy my vacation and will constantly be worrying about him. What would you do?

Iwould not leave him home,they need people

Why can't you take him,if you are driving, find a hotel that allows pets,when you get to Orlando find a vet or kennel & board him while you are at Disney World & pick him up in the evening. Hanley

You just don't know what may happen.

If the idea Hanley gave is not an option, you should post in the Boxer-sitting forum and see if anyone can take care of Jackson for that week...Just an idea

OK, I just responded to this post and my response disappeared.

Anyhow, I would suggest looking into a reputable place that has doggie day care and boarding. The dogs play together during the day. Once your boy is old enough, take him there several times for day care (while you are at work, for instance). He'll become familiar and when you go out of town will feel more comfortable there if boarded.

I would seriously find someone who could watch him 24/7... When I go into labor my neighbor who Daisy absolutely adores is coming to watch her... and stay with my 3yo... So someone will be here for 24 hours after the birth... Since military hospitals turn you out in 24... But I wish they would let Daisy come to the hospital to help with labor... I know she would be a comfort... especially if she was allowed in the jacuzzi... LOL... but yes... If you could find someone to dogsit your house... that is an idea... Being in the military dorm people usually do it for everyone, plus gives them a chance to get out of the dorms... our friend does it, and gets paid really good money

If the take him with option will work for you I know that Disney has pet sitting available at a very reasonable rate and you can go during the day to visit if you like. But never leave him alone. Your instincts were right that leaving him in the back yard with a neighbor checking on him is a bad idea. Anything could happen and you would be devastated and so would your neighbor. I take Toni to the vet's kennel. She loves them to death and during the day she gets to play with other dogs that are kenneled. She is as happy as she can be when she sees the vet's building. Of course she is always ready to come home too. But I know she is taken care of because she loves them and also I feel a little more secure about it because if something were to happen she is right at the vet's and they can take care of it. Good luck and have a good time at Disney World.

There's no way I would leave Austin alone for a week. Especially if you plan on leaving your baby outside. I just wouldn't go on the vacation.

Disneyland and Disneyworld (and all 6 Flags) have kennels at the park for day usuage. It is your responsiblity to take them out, but there is someone there all day watching them.
No way would I leave Luka alone, outside for a week.
