Layla is attached to me more than husband.

Hi

We brought Layla home from a shelter when she was 8 months old. We have only had her in our home for about six weeks now but she will not go outside with my husband. She will only go outside if I go with her and runs for the door if I happen to go inside without her.

She plays and listens to my husband just fine so that is not a problem. The lady at the shelter we got her from said that Layla had really bonded with her and stayed by her side constantly.

I don't mind taking Layla outside but can someone tell me when if ever she will feel comfortable going outside without me. How do I go about training her that it is O.K. to go outside with my husband or go outside on her own.

We have had Lucy for about 4 1/2 months now. She wouldn't go near my DH at all in the beginning. After a few weeks, she finally started laying near him on the bed in the evening. & would allow him to pet her while we watched tv. She also started playing with him, but on her terms. Now she will follow him around when she is interested in what he is doing & she will let him touch her when he is up & about instead of only trusting him while laying on the bed with me in close proximity. She still isn't your typically over-affectionate boxer, but she is getting better...she even lays outside the shower & watches him most nights recently.

Don't get discouraged....it may take time, but patience will get you there =)

You could also have your husband make the time spend alone outside with her extra fun and special. For example have him feed her really nice/high value treats (like cheese, hotdog etc), or have a special toy that only comes out when he is alone with her outside. In the beginning aim for a minute or so of alone time after you go inside, and once she is more comfortable I'm sure she won't mind spending more time with him alone
