I am glad there is something out there that can possibly make him more comfortable and steady on his feet. Thanks for responding, Mariah.

I went through this with my 2 1/2 yr old Boris. I came home one day to find he couldn't give me my usual greeting (jumping up and down running around and doing the kidney beening) along with excessive slobbering. All of a sudden his hind legs collapsed and he couldn't do it. Also contracted namonia (spelling?). Took him to the Vet, took x-rays, they revealed nothing! Took him to a specialist right away, blood tests were negative, urine - negative nothing came up. In the meantime he was losing weight couldn't keep his food down and one final x-ray showed his oesophagus did not contract the Vet nailed down to Myasthenia Gravis (Google.com / myasthenia gravis dogs).

Symptoms were - excessive slobbering, hind legs buckling under, droopy eyes/face, laboured breathing, could not keep anything in stomach including water. Laying, sleeping the whole time.
It was so very, very sad.

Please look this up and see if these are your baby's symptoms. There's hope! I was surprised to find it's a people's disease. The medication makes all the difference in the world. I got Boris back with the exception of lose bowels.

I give him medication 2 or 3 times a day for a life time. The medication costs are nothing compared to having him back.

I wish you the best.

Hey everybody! Saturday night--Mugsy sleeping atop a pile of throw pillows on the chair and Shadow wedged next to his daddy on the couch. No big changes, but got lots of outdoor time today.

Cindy--responded to your PM and followed your lead!

ipena--I'm glad Boris came around from his MG. I did check into that, but it does not seem to be our demon. I am going to read up some more, just to make sure it has been ruled out by our neurologist. Thanks so much for your support!

New XL boots have not arrived yet--maybe Monday.

Last night, we bought a new SUV with the boys in mind. An Acura MDX with 3 rows of seats and side curtain airbags for all. Both the Acura and Volvo salesmen were quite amused when we stated that we needed seats for our dogs because they wear seatbelt harnesses! We are strong advocates of Easy Riders, and I will feel much safer not cramming two 70lb boys into a Honda Prelude anymore. No lie, their heads took up the entire back window visiblity!!!!!! Only challenge now is convincing Matt to wait "just a little longer" to fill it with human babies!

A wonderful weekend to all!

How's Mugsy doing? Is he still making improvements?

I was reading and trying to find out what the exact diagnosis was for Mugsy, is it the demyelination?

I have been off BW for awhile, we just recently bought our first house and we are finally starting to get settled in and I just had to see how Mugsy was doing. Eventhough i've been away your baby has remained on my mind and in my prayers. Give him a big hug from us;)

Mugsy is having some trouble these days. It seems wet weather has an adverse effect on him, as it does most of us with nerve damage. He seems a bit better tonight, but I am afraid the demylelination is moving up his left leg. The XL boots came in, but I cannot keep Mugsy on his feet long enough to get them on. It is an extensive process that we just cannot get through, so I am sending them back.

Congrats on your new house, Carrie! I hope you are all adjusted and wish you the best! As always, thanks for your concern. As far as the diagnosis, "peripheral demyelination" is it--pretty much doggie MS. The only difference is that there is a possibility that it can reverse someday. That is my greatest wish!

Have a great weekend!

Hi Cindy. I sent you a PM, but maybe I messed something up. I did buy that product immediately after getting your message. Mugsy has been on it for 4 days now. I bought a 2 month supply. We'll see what happens. As for now, he is the same. Have you tried it yet?
We had a get together with about 20 people on Saturday night and Mugsy was very social and stood up to greet everyone who came. The really touching part was that all of our guests who know Mugs spent time on his bed with him and gave him lots of love. I'm just glad he is still with us and still wants to interact with the world--especially the culinary world!

I just have to say, I think you (and everyone else whose little ones have such health problems) are so brave to deal with this.

Your comment about everyone hugging him is so sweet, you must have some wonderful friends and a wonderful dog.

Mariah.
