I bet it was just a miscalibration of the lab equipment and his RBC count actually went UP to 51.

Well that's Apollo's theory anyway, and he's right sometimes!

But seriously, I bet that this is just a sign that Owen is leveling off and his normal RBC count is just somewhere between 47 and 49. I'm sure that he's fine! There are so many things that it could be that there's no sense worrying about it. Of course I know you can't help it anyway but I had to try...

Nope not yet. I was hoping that yesterday's news would have been better and we would have started to wean him off today... It looks like it will be another week or two at least. I just HATE giving him the steroids everyday. I worry about what's going on inside..

Thanks you ALL for you support it really does mean allot to me. I know I can count on you all to be there when I am over reacting I know that it's normal to fluctuate a little here and there, but because it never happened to Owen I thought we were in the clear. I am not worried about his health at all. 2 points is nothing, it's not like he dropped to from 49 to 30.

I just worry about the guy. We just came back from the dog park and you would never know that he is sick - out ran everyone there!

I will post as soon as I have results on Monday.

I never heard of "squeaky cheese" until I began working for my company who is a major dairy coop ! Yummy!!!!!

Well not so good news...

We were back into the vets today for another red blood cell count and he went down again :( Owen's red blood cell count is now at 43. The normal range is 35-55, so his health is not threatened or anything. Owen was at 49, then 47, and within a week he as dropped to 43.

My vet wasn't in today, so I will wait for his call tomorrow so that we can discuss this further.

Owen's food, excercise, environment,... has all stayed the same, so I can't figure this out.

The only thing that is a little different is that the last 'session' of drugs that he was on (two weeks worth) I bought through the local pharmacy because the vet's office was out of the steroids that Owen is on... I don't think that this would have an effect, but you never know.

I just picked up some more meds from the vets and we start them tomorrow - I will keep a close eye on him and see if he improves.

I got to talk with the vet tech yesterday and she wanted to relay one meassage from my vet - "DON'T WORRY"!!! My vet knows how I can worry and stress - OK I over react most of the time, but they are so helpless.

My vet says that this it is normal to have slight fluctuations in the RBC count... He says that he woudl be worried if he plemmeted downward, which is much different than what Owen is doing.

Owen's count is stil WELL within the normal range. We are to go back in two weeks for another count and asess the situation then.

Since he has been on the vet meds I think he is doing better (pinker, and more energy), but it could just be me looking too hard

We are still going to the off leash park and he out runs everyone! He is entered into an agility trial next weekend too. The vet says to treat him normal, because is numbers say he's normal!

Thanks for letting me vent and express my stress - it makes me feel much better.

From what I have read on these boards I think we are all alike when it comes to our babies. I know my little girl has a mole that I have been stressed about for two weeks, even though the vet says it is ok. How can you look into those beautiful eyes and not worry. But I am so glad to hear that the vet says Owen is just doing what is normal. All of our good vibes have helped it seems. Five, Tyson and I will keep sending them.

I've just caught up on all the posts - what an ordeal you've all been through! I'm so glad to get to the end and read that Owen is doing better! He's lucky to have such a great mom like you.
