I'm just going to throw this out there...........why not contact Kong Company and ask them for suggestions?

Have you ever e-mailed them? If you have and you got a nice response you must have been hitting a lucky day, if not, then I wouldn't suggest it. I've never gotten a nice or helpful response from that company ever. I like their beehive toys, but the company has no idea what customer service is....at least not the times I've contacted them, which was either 2 or 3. I don't contact them unless I really really have an issue with a product which now I've started purchasing their products at PetSmart instead of online as PetSmart will return them if there's any issues so I go that route and bypass the Kong Company.

I've always had good experiences with them. I wouldn't have suggested it if I did not.

Oh I wasn't implying that you would have, but had I never contacted a company I may suggest it just as a suggestion. Yeah haven't had pleasant experiences with them, avoid contacting them anymore.

I think I'll be going with the idea someone gave me of the paste, some of his kibble soaked in water mixed with peanut butter and some green beans and carrots and frozen. Not too much work, nothing will spoil in the time we're gone, and shouldn't make too much of a mess in his crate either.

Thanks all!

What about some baby food? I don't know if it has gluten in it but if not, that could be an option. It would be easily digestable since it is made for babies and it would be convenient since it would be in a jar, just dump it in and freeze. I know they have meat based ones but a lot also have noodles or whatever so that could be a gluten issue, you would just have to read the ingredients.

As far as chicken, cook it and put in little individual servings into bags and freeze. Chicken livers and gizzards are easily stuffed into a kong, I usually put them in raw, don't know if that would be too rough on his belly or not.

If all else fails, make the concoction you mentioned. You know best what he likes and what he can handle.

Just a side note on baby foods in general be very careful to always read ingredients as many use onion and garlic powder in their baby foods which can be toxic to dogs.

I sometimes use 1/8 of a tsp if a dog isn't feeling well or when I'm pet sitting and they're homesick and don't want to eat the 100% meat ones, but too much gives most dogs the runs in my experience, so an entire jar (or more since they're only 2.5oz each) could mean trouble for most dogs, it's GREAT to get dogs to eat, but it's somethign to be used in small amounts and with caution LoL.

Cooked foods are okay for him right now, but no raw, too much chance of contracting an infection in those intestinal and stomach incisions. I was stictly told to not give him anything raw, including eggs for awhile (which stinks because he LOVES raw eggs!)

One thing you can try is the frozen fruit that comes in a bag in the freezer section. Pull out small portions and bag seperately. They would last a week atleast in the fridge. Freeze the portions you don't use right away.

There isn't enough garlic in baby food to hurt the dogs. I have also never had a problem with baby food giving them the runs either but my dogs have stomachs of steel. I just looked at a jar of baby food and the only thing that was in it was chicken, water, and corn starch...nothing they wouldn't get on a regular basis anyhow. The corn starch may be an issue for your boy but whatever.

It seems that you have ruled every suggestion out but one more idea would be the evangers 100% meat. All it is is the meat and water. Other than that, I don't know.

There's no corn starch in the baby food I buy. It's chicken, water, and chicken broth. It's the beechnut chicken and chicken broth or turkey and turkey broth.

I have been told by more than one vet to make sure that there is no onion powder or garlic powder in the regular baby foods. I simply don't chance it since I've had quite a few tell me to stay away from it, when I can either make the same thing at home myself or buy the 100% meat that has nothing but broth, meat, and water in it, it's a little more expensive, but safer IMO. Again this is just my IMO.

It's hard not to rule out suggestions when I'm stuck with he can only have what he's already had plus he has allergies plus he has colitis. Not my fault the best puppy in the litter as a puppy turned out to be a host of medical issues. I do what I can with a nasty situation with him, and on top of it genius here ate his blanket and has an 8-10 inch incision down his stomach, plus one IN his stomach, plus 2 in his intestines so having a bout of diarrhea or vomiting can cause those to bust something that I sure don't want to deal with when I'm on a cruise ship and can't be gotten a hold of for 8 days, plus then 900 miles away the other 4 days, yes he has issues when he hasn't had major surgery with food restrictions. I don't mean to shoot down ideas, but I have to stick with what he has already eaten in the past that I know doesn't cause issues for him but because of his issues he rarely eats human food because I got fed up with the rash, the open sores, the itchies, the uncontrollable bloody diarrhea, so I have found a few things that work for him and just stick with those and call it good. Hopefully someone out there with an allergy and/or colitis dog can understand that predicament then add on top major surgery that he can literally bust his guts open if he gets diarrhea or vomiting and I 300% need to stick with what i know.

As I've said, someone's idea of the peanut butter, rice, green bean, kibble soaked in water paste and then freeze is GREAT, all things he's had, easy to come by, doesn't cause problems for him, quick to put together, won't break the bank, plus he likes everything and it's half way healthy (since he'll be getting this for 12-14 days).

Again thank you for the ideas, but I think we have it figured out now.

There's also Wellness 95% wahtever, chicken, Beef, etc that is meat and water also, I have a couple of cans, just in case you weren't aware of another brand.

What about some canned dog food? Just put into smaller servings and freeze. It would be soft enough and you could get for limited diets also. Just throwing a few more ideas your way.
