Today is Koda's first day at doggy daycare. It's a really neat place, I've checked it out and I'm confident it's a good place for him, and he will LOVE it. I'm still a bit sad because I've never left him in a strange place for so long before. I'm sure he won't think of me at all until at least lunch time, but I can't stop thinking about HIM! I'd rather be able to stay home with him, like I did for the last month or so after I quit my job. However, I found a new job now that's far from home, can't come at lunch and let him out anymore, can't find a dog walker in the area, doggy daycare is the way to go. I hope he's having fun!!! I will cal in a couple of hours to make sure he's doing okay.

Don't worry Mom. Koda's gonna love it. Gunther has been going to doggy day care one day a week for the past four weeks. I'd like to think he misses me, but I know better. The staff tell me he is on the go all day long. And I believe them because Gunther is exhausted when he gets home and remains pretty mellow throughout the weekend. Just check out your baby when he gets home. There may be some scratches but you want to be sure there isn't a bite mark or something that could get infected. Check the pads of his feet (paws) also, Gunther had a slight tear on this pad once also.
Lucky started doggy day care today as well. We are getting our house painted and needed a place for her to go. This is her first day, but will be there everyday this week. She cried a little when I left, nothing like that to make you sad, but I don't think it will last. I'm never as much fun as other dogs! I'm sure all our little ones are doing fine!!
Good day care situations are priceless. There's nothing to compare with the joy on my dog's face when I ask him "the question" on a morning when he's going to daycare. He goes in willingly, has fun all day, but is always thrilled to see me (or whoever picks him up) at the end of the day. All the dogs may be raising a ruckus because somebody's mama came, but he knows it's HIS mama and couldn't be happier, and leaves without a backward glance.
I just got back from visiting Koda at daycare. Of course, I had already called once this morning to check and make sure everything was going okay. The lady said there was a poodle who he really wanted to play with, but wouldn't have anything to do with him and it was driving him crazy. By the time I got there at lunch the poodle was napping in his private room (they have several little rooms with toddler beds in them for dogs who need private time), and Koda was playing outside with some other dogs. There had been an altercation between two dogs just before I got there, so it was a golden opportunity for me to see how they respond to such things. The "offender" was in confinement in a separate room, although he still had plenty of toys and comfy places to lay around, and the "victim" was out playing, but they had already called his vet and his mommy to inform them of the situation, even though it was pretty minor (just a nick on the neck with a very small amount of blood, a doggy argument over whose turn it was to play with the ball). I was told that during the altercation Koda was unconcernedly humping an unsuspecting lab. How embarrassing!! Anyway, I got to see him, he was pretty happy to see me and content to sit and accept all of my hugs and kisses, but after a short time he was ready to go back with the other dogs again. So I watched him through the fence for a bit while the moderator was blowing bubbles and the dogs were chasing them. It was just what I needed to reassure me that he will be perfectly safe and happy to play there all day. He's going to be going twice a week at least for awhile, so I'm glad he's having a good time. PS The lady who owns/runs the daycare has a boxer, so knows exactly what to expect from Koda!

It sounds like Koda is having sooo much fun at daycare. I bet she misses you bunches though. Just a question, how much does it cost? I work 7-9am and 3-5pm so Giddy doesn't need to go but I think that it may be really good for him, especially if I get this new job where I will be working all day 2 days a week.
Our day care is $20 a day -- 7:30 AM-6 PM. It really isn't too much. We needed the day care this week because our house was getting painted. Usually we have a dog walker come twice a day. I think we are going to take her one day a week from now on. Lucky just loves it and it is a great, safe, socializing tool.
