Shelby got spayed on Thursday and came home friday. She is her normal self- jumping, running ect. She only stays calm if I give her a bone to chew on. How can I keep her more calm?? Last night it looked like the stitches had some fluid on them.

Yeah, keeping a boxer calm after a spay is a near impossibility!!! Have you tried containing her the rooms you are in with closed doors and gates. Also putting empty boxes or gates on furniture or beds so she doesn't jump on them. You can also get a treat ball that she can occupy herself with pushing it around on the ground. If you have a fenced yard, you may want to take her out on a leash to keep her from springing all over the place.

Good luck, I know it's hard and I hope she heals quickly so she can resume her normal crazy behavior!

Mirka just got her spay stitches out on Friday. It was virtually impossible for us to keep her calm. We discouraged her from jumping around (she's not allowed [read: supposed to] jump on furniture!), took her for on-lead walks every morning.

After 7 days we had to take her to the park with the ball lurcher, as she was going up the walls. We had kept a close eye on her wound and it healed well so we didn't worry about her running.

She is now 100% and we feel comfortable with her jumping around. Though in reality, she's been 100% since the day after her operation!!

We just realised we couldn't worry about her too much, just keep an eye out for her and make sure the wound was healing. It's a difficult task, trying to repress an active boxer ;)

Maggie was spayed about three weeks ago. When I took her in to have her stitches removed I took the vet to task on "keeping the dog from jumping". He laughed and said that boxers were definately a different sort of dog and that the staff would kind of laugh when they tell boxer owners to "keep the dog calm". They knew that those directions were next to impossible and that as long as the stitches were healing normally I did not need to worry about her activity.
