I was coming in from my walk with Herkie this pm, and he was taking longer than normal sniffing a spot of grass right in front of our door, he usually does this when he smells another animal. Right about this time, my neighbors door opens, and out comes a woman carrying a small white poodle. She was actually on the sidewalk when she saw Herkie, and said "Oh $hit!...I am glad I am carrying Frostie, or he would have charged us!" smashicon Herkie didn't make a SINGLE move towards this woman, just looked at her & Frostie with curiosity...had his head cocked. And came right in the door when I told him too. Just because my dog is considered big(he's actually a smaller boxer) does not mean he will charge you, he's actually very friendly, albeit protective, and loves most people. Does she think I can't control my dog? I know other people have had much worser encounters with other people....but this irritated the He!! out of me! Thanks guys, I knew ya'll would understand!

So very true on the name--ha ha!! Dont worry about her and her teeny tiny dog, she probably had a better chance of her dog starting the fight than yours. Don't people understand that boxers are just big, overgrown babies??

Becky...you are so right! What was I thinking!

Laura...you're right too....because "Frostie" was actually growling in her arms! Her dog was the bully...not mine!

Sorry you had to experience this! The name 'Frosty' does explain a bitt!

For the first time the other day, we experienced this stuff too...Asia and I were outside walking and as soon as we walked outside the apartment, this girl saw us and picked up her maltese so quick. So, I just smiled and walked by and after Asia was done, we walked back and the girl grabbed her dog and walked off. I told her "She's friendly, I promise", and she yelled back "My dog doesn't like Pit Bulls" I just had to say "Well, then she'll love my BOXER, Asia"! She just gave me a dirty look and walked off...

some people ... smashicon

well,I agree.With a name like frostie,what dog wouldn't be interrested?LOL.
Although my boxer,Utah, would charge.I have to keep him on a tight leash. He is young and still learning that it is only okay to do so when I say so....

It's a shame.... And *most* of the time it is the little ones that charge! At the horse shows, it is almost always the little ones that are straining at the ends of their leds growling and barking at the big dogs (boxers, dobes, rotts), while the big dogs just silently look at them.

I had one neighbor while getting her shopping bags out of her car, saw my Diabla (I call her Dee, less upsetting for the neighbor, especially the Hispanics:)). Anyway Dee was aoubt 45 feet away from her look at a bird. My neighbor dropped her bags and ran, screamming for her apartment. Dee just looked at me as if to say whats wrong with her.
There is a small (about 4 pound dog) that just moved in her owner will not put her down if another dog is anywhere around. She says it is because her dog with attack. I believe her. That dog is mean and growls in a very bad way. I don't even try being friendly with it.

Poor Herkie getting a bad rep for nothing. :) As an owner of two small dogs (MinPins) I know it's my two that will start the growling and barking at other dogs when first meeting them. It's their way of saying I'm as big as you and you can't pick on me cause I'll pick on you first. :) Usually when coming across a dog bigger than them I tell my dogs loud enough for the other owner to hear in a joking voice, "quiet, if that big dog wanted to it could eat you in one bite but you are so annoying that it'd rather ignore you." Which is usually what happens the bigger dog just looks at them like whats your problem. It's too funny.
But not everyone has a sense of humor like that. I feel sorry for the little dog, he's probably trying to make up for having a name like Frostie. :)
Just give Herkie and big kiss and tell him he such a good boy!

"Frostie" probably has a lot to prove... he is small, named after a Snowman and has a weird overprotective owner who probably thinks that he is totally sweet and innocent. If he didn't have a tough reputation, what would he have???

As for Herkie, he was a perfect gentleman... you should have said "by 'charge' do you mean 'barely acknowledge'? Because he doesn't look very interested in Frosting".
