:confused: Hello i would like some advice on my dog JESS she is nine months old and has got sore ears they are red inside she keeps on scrathing them and the inside of them is all red and looks like they have been bleeding i dont know why she does this does anybody have any answers? i would appreciate it as it is getting me worried as they look really sore inside THANKYOU:D

Three things come to mind. Ear infection, mites, or an allergic reaction.
Rocky would get an allergic reaction to mold spores in late summer and early fall and the area between his toes and in his ears would become red and inflamed. He would scratch incessantly at his ears and lick at his paws. The vet gave us a prescription for an antihistamine if over the counter remedies such as benedryl wouldn't relieve it.
It does need to be checked so you will know what you are dealing with. Frequent shaking of the head can be symptomatic of an ear infection and they may paw at their ear with their front legs as though trying to wipe something away.
Vigorous scratching with a hind leg could indicate itching from an allergy.
A vet should make the diagnosis.

Regardless of what is causing it...it needs to be taken care of. If not....and Jess continues to shake her head, she could cause herself to develop a hematoma in the ear, and you certainly don't want that to happen. I have seen it way too many times at the office I worked for.

I would definately take Jess to the vet asap. The first time Baylee did this she was so miserable and had very sore ears (from shaking her head constantly-her -natural ears- were all swollen and the vet said she had a small hematoma in one of them) They can get infections like these for a number of reasons, Baylee's was because she was allergic to her food (we changed and now she doesn't itch them anymore). But, a friend of mine, they have a sharpei and she was going swimming a lot (in a nasty stagnet pond!):eek: the bacteria multiplied and low and behold there was the nasty stinky gooey ears!
So they can get infections from water getting in their ears, allergies of some sort, mites-but they don't usually get inflamed and red from this usually just nasty crusty stuff inside (from all my crossings w/animals & ear mites at least) Anyway the only way to really treat it is to see a vet once you have established the reason (if she gets them again) you can pretty much treat it on your own. Hello i would like to thankyou all again for your advice i took JESS the vet on friday and he had a look at her ears and he said that she had Ear Mites or Gange in her ears and that Ear Mites are so tiny that you only have a one in sixteen chance of seeing them under a microscope which i thought was usefull to know so anyway he gave her some STRONGHOLD and it seems to be doing the trick as her ears are looking good already so i hope they stay that way so thanks again :D
