My jail bird is sick

Been awhile since I've been here so hello to all, Anyway Toby last Tuesday the 13th got loose from my wife chasing a dog out of our yard.To make a long story short, he was arrested and put in quartine for 10 days, but on the 6 day when I got back in to town I met with the sarge of the shetter and he allowed me to bring him home only to keep him on house arrest until the 23rd. He is limping, he has no appetite, he has a runnie nose it's like he has lost all his get up and go. The sarge said he never saw him lying down, always standing, I thought he maybe tired, and have a cold, noticed him shaking his head like saying no one time that worried me, but he hasn't done it since then and he has lost some weigh, could this be trama from someone squirting a hose pipe at you, alot of dogs barking, standing on cement floor, anything, I need some answers and please I need them fast. I called the vet she said he made be tired, and sounds like alligeries, but if I need too, please bring him in. A totaly different dog from the one I left last tuesday morning...
Any suggestions on what to do would be very helpful...Gotta get him up and back to himself, just gotta...

I'm so sorry for Toby!

Poor thing must be traumatized by the whole experience! I don't have much information on how to help him overcome this, I just hope he gets back in his feet as soon as he can, I can't imagine a poor dog being arrested and taken to jail (shelter). Hopefully it won't happen again, but me & Tyson are sending hugs and kisses for Toby!

Thank you I am very worried I looked at his foot he has a broken nail and his toe looks a little swollen....Just gotta get him eating and drinkin again thanks again

I would take the advice of your vet. and bring Toby to the vet ASAP.

Regarding food, you might want to try giving him something like some boiled chicken with rice. Foods that may be more appetizing than kibble.

Other on this site will most likely have better advice than I; I would be on my way to the veterinarian.

Thanks, he will eat treats and other human food no doggie, watching him and letting him rest, the vet says there is a good chance he didn't sleep much away from home in a strange and weird place...He will go if I see any difference in the way he is now....Thanks again...

Poor baby!! I would be traumitized too if I were put in jail! He was probably in a cell next to some low-life mangy fleabag...

Many years ago, my sweet Five girl had the same experience. She got out of the yard and was chasing a cat and was reported to the police and they came and took her to jail. She lost so much weight and was so sick from the shear trauma of being away from us that they finally let her out and she came home. I think I would just have the vet take a look at him, especially the foot and just pamper him until he knows he is safe again.

I called home last night my wife said toby eat some chicken and hamburger, I ask about his toe she said it was swelling more, so I arrived home about 4:00 pm today, man his right paw looks like he is web footed swollen bad, so off to the vet, will post back later on how he is and what we find out thanks for caring all of you even if you didn't post a reply....

Poor Toby! We hope he is okay! When I first started reading this thread I was thinking maybe it was just the trauma of being in jail, but now I think maybe its cuz his foot was bothering him.

Anyways, you never know how they treat those poor dogs in "jail". I'm sure he's more than happy to be home with y'all and once his paw heals up hopefully he'll be back to his old self!

Went to vet Wednesday he said it looked like a spider bite or he could have gotten his paw (nail) hung in the fence at the pokie, he gave us some medicine and said it should get better.....Today is Saturday, toby has not eaten since Thursday, his foot has gone down alittle but there is a big hole in the side of his toe. The medicine has caused him to loose his desire for FOOD, want eat treats, not even a piece of steak. Called Vet they ask if he was drinking water, (yes) so watch him til Monday and if no improvement bring him back. Just acts all depressed and maybe a upset stomach could be at fault also. Not the same dog I had a week ago, no names meantioned but I was told when they feed them at the shelter, if they are jumping up being hiper they squirt them with the hose to make them mind and this does something to the dog. I wondered why he was soaked when I picked him up and why he looks at me before drinking water as if is it ok for me to get some water....Man this really suxs my best friend is a totaly different...I just want my Tobester back the way he was....Thanks for all the puppie kisses and hugs....
