I'm glad to hear that Izzy is doing better. As for the grass Ali eats it from time to time. I used to worry but apparently it just helps their tummy's. Whenever she has a gassy tummy and I can hear it making noises I will take her for a walk and she will eat grass and it always fixes it. I do this with both my dogs and it always helps. Cats eat grass too.

I am very sorry to hear about your dad and at such a young age. That is truly a crime. Bringing the dogs to the nursing home is a wonderful thing to do. The patients just love it and they always manage to tell a story about when they had a dog at home. You are very lucky you have a wonderful mom that can help you out. I depended on my mom on times too and I'll will never forget it. Anyway, I'm just glad that Izzy is doing much better and hopefully she'll improve more and more as each day passes. Hugs from myself and Ali.

Now that I think about it, maybe she has eaten grass before, because I tell her she is a boxer, not a moo cow, LOL. I am just super vigilant of her right now.

Murp: Yes, a lot of the patients do tell me about pets they use to have, usually every time I see them, since they don't remember that they had already told me. There was one resident there (she has passed away) that told me she had a boxer before. You should have seen the joy on her face when she saw my dogs. She had the biggest smile from ear to ear and was soooo excited she was beyond herself. She was petting them and was talking and talking and couldn't get enough of them. I did find out later from her family that she did indeed have a boxer. Obviously, owning a boxer is something you never forget, even when you are aflicted with a terrible disease like Alzheimer's.

My vet had Hurricane on this when he was a pup and had bad diarreah, this stuff is amazing! If you can't get Forti Flora where you live any good pet supply store (the ones that sell premium kibbles, etc) should carry a brand or two of a probiotic like Forti Flora.

I continue to think of Izzy and hope that she continues to improve.

As you know, my Crystalangelicon had a terrible experience with Rymidal. Some of the things that Izzy had/is experiencing were very similar with Crystal. I remember in one of your early posts that Izzy was laying on a cool floor surface. Crystal always stayed in the room I was in, but suddenly she was laying in very unusual places, all surfaces were hard and cool. Of course, I didn't put two and two together. She began eating an unusual amount of grass, but I didn't notice her vomiting it up as was usual. The difference with Crystal and Izzy is that Crystal was given a large injection of Rymidal the day she died. She had been taking Rymidal orally for her back leg, but the day she died she just wasn't right and the vet felt she had some stomach pain and gave her the injection. She died that evening, with her gums almost white and the pads of her feet freezing. The ER vet said that all her blood supply appeared to be in her stomach.

I would just tell you to note if you observe Izzy doing things out of the ordinary. If you do call the vet and let them know. I really didn't know that Crystal was sick, I just thought she was getting old and was tired. So I didn't call the vet with the small changes. She had just had her yearly physical and everything was great.

Izzy has received great care and seems to be on the road to recovery. I just wanted to let you know that if you wonder if something is suspect, call the vet and let them know. It is better to err on the side of safety.

auntthelm: I think about you and your Crystal often. It is probably because of you that my Izzy is still here. If I would have kept giving her the Rimadyl, who knows what would have happened. It's because of you that I took her right to the ER vet. I will keep an eye on the grass eating and if it continues, I will call my vet. She seems to be doing good, other than that, and other than being very hungry. She never cared before about food too much, now she just wants it all the time. I am sure it's not as filling just eating chicken and rice. I have a gut feeling it was the Rimadyl that did all this to her.

Sasmeow, If my info to you helped Izzy, I am grateful.

In my search for trying to figure out what happened with Crystal, I knew the only way I could be at peace with her death was to let other know what happened because of the Rymidal. I can accept her death easier if it helps others by sharing my information.

The only thing I can't accept is that Pfizer and the animal medical community continue to put our dogs at risk by the use of Rymidal. A few thing I didn't know were, Crystal's should have had monthly blood work to check for liver and kidney damage, asprin should never be given when using Rymidal (our vet encouraged baby asprin for Crystal when she was limpy) but didn't say not to use both - at this point I wonder if I gave her both, I just don't know. There are other things, but finally I never realized that a vet telling you a drug could be dangerous and watch for vomiting was the same as saying even if she doesn't vomit the drug could kill her.

Sorry to go on and on. I'm just glad that more are now aware of the danger.

Sending continued healthy vibes Izzy's way.

auntthelm: Izzy didn't vomit either. All her symptoms are sounding so similar to your angel Crystal's. I bet Crystal is watching over my little Izzy girl. Everyone that I know now that has dogs on any drugs, I tell them about Rimadyl. I just had a client today (I'm a massage therapist) and her dog was on it and we were talking about how bad it is.

I can't believe that your vet told you to give her aspirin with it. I hope you don't go to that vet anymore. I hope you don't feel quilty for your baby passing. I am sure she knew how much you love her, and we only do what the vet says because we trust them. I am positive that you and your dear Crystal had a part in saving my Izzy. It could have been a lot worse. I hope you take comfort in that, that even though the passing of your baby was terrible, she may save some lives, that some good is coming out of it.

Thanks again. I am so glad you warned me about the Rimadyl. I wish you lived near because I would come over there right now and give you a big (((((((((((((((((((((((((((HUG)))))))))))))))))))))))))
