Izzy is doing well. I took her to spend some time with my mom and her dog and my brother today. I took Gus to visit my dad (he is in a nursing home for demetia patients, he is 60 yrs old, has early onset Alzheimer's), so I didn't want Izzy to have to stay home again. Sometimes I take both of them there, but I didn't want to take Izzy because I was afriad a resident might give her food on accident. It was about 70 degrees here today, so Izzy got to take a nap out on my moms deck and sunbathe. It was like we had a heat wave, LOL. Its been in the 40's or 50's. I am sure she has a blast. I put 2 doggie beds on the deck so she could lay in the shade or the sun (my mom has a bed for each of my dogs at her house, for when they come visit). Then she came in my moms house and played a little with her cocker spaniel Coco (Coco is a crazy man, he is almost 4 yrs old, he's a rescue, chocolate cocker spaniel). She isn't suppose to be playing because of her knee, but she did play a little. She is limping now :( I guess I should call the orthopedic. She said to call in 2 weeks if she wasn't doing better. But maybe I could give it more time to rest since she was sick. I dont want the doctor to put her on any medications.... I am sure that's what she will do. I think Izzy enjoyed getting out in the nice weather. It hasn't been very warm and she only goes out to potty. She was probably happy to go somewhere that wasn't the hospital or my house. At my moms house, we can block off the deck so she can only go on the deck and not run into the yard. My deck has 3 places to get off it, so its impossible to block it off. Izzy pooed today, and it wasn't diarrhea, just a little mushy. So, it's getting better. She wants to run and play so badly. I wish her knee would just get better. I think I will start giving her a little of her food tomorrow with her rice/chicken and hoepfully she does good. My mom just got an inground pool and they are opening it soon. When it gets warmer, I was going to sneak over during the day and take Izzy swimming. She doesn't really like to swim, but it will be good for her knee. My mom doesn't want her in the pool, but she is not there during the day, hehehe. Izzy does the water treadmill, but its 40 dollars a session and it adds up since we go every week. We haven't gone since she hurt her knee though. I am letting her rest from everything. I should be nice to my mom since she helped me with all Izzy's expenses. I will pay her back eventually, but I think I am over 4000 dollars now. I don't care if I have to pay it back the rest of my life, I love Izzy so much and she is worth every penny. Sorry I am just going on and on!! Izzy is doing well, and hopefully she keep improving. I will keep you posted how she does when she is back on her food.

Thanks for checking in on her!

I am sorry to hear that your dad has early Alzheimer's, it is wonderful that you can take Gus to visit him. There is no better therapy than that! Does Gus also get to visit other patients?
I am glad to hear Izzy's doing better and your mom is beyond wonderful for helping you. And you allready know that you're a great mom to your babies too!!:)

Gus and Izzy both visit other patients too. They don't have any therapy dogs that come in there, so the patients LOVE it. I have so many cute stories, I should post in the other forum. Gus is on his best behavior there, he is such a good boy. I have been taking Gus since he was 4 months old, and Izzy has been going too. There is one patient there, once he asked me where the other one was because I just came with Gus. I was amazed he remembered. Another lady asked me when I was bringing my dogs again (I didn't have them that visit). It's amazing how they remember my dogs. Izzy doesn't get to go a lot because of her knees, and she had surgeries. It's hard for her to get up and down and out of people's way when she wants to lay down. I just have to have their shot records, and they can come when they want. I even took one of my cats once, but he is so huge I thought he would hurt someone if I laid him in their lap. The cat had a blast, he loved all the attention and love. He wasn't scared at all..... he is not a normal cat. This cat is the freindliest cat ever, not afraid of anyone. He is afraid of the neighbor dog that looks like a horse, lol. There is a courtyard that is fenced off so Izzy and Gus can run out there. My dad will hold onto the leash and when I walk my dad (he's in a chair all the time except when we walk him) Gus doesn't even pull. Its like he knows. It's weird how my dad remembers to hold the leash to walk him. Once he even sat down and started to pet Gus on the back, and Gus just stayed very still, didn't wiggle or jump or lick at him. I will have to post the stories. They are great pups. I want to make them therapy dogs some day, but they do need work.

I just think it's so amazing that you and your babies are helping people this way! I would love to do what you are doing once I can get Nikita to completely stopping jumping on people! :)

Izzy is doing well, but I am concerned about something. She is eating grass, and I always thought that meant that their tummy hurts. She is eating/drinking fine. Her stools are smooshy, but not diarrhea. She is off all medications. I am sure it will take a while for her stools to firm up. Any ideas about the grass????

I don't know if eating grass always means tummy upset. Rolen likes to eat grass, but not all grass and not a lot. He prefers the thicker variety :) As far as Izzy, has she ever eaten grass before and not been sick? I would just watch and see if any of her other behavior changes. Her stomach may still be adjusting.
