Izzy wont eat or drink

I'm so happy to hear that Izzy's PLI results are good! Sometimes the pancreas can become inflamed when there is a problem with any of the other digestive organs. Did you ask your vet why you have to wear gloves to give the Misoprostol? That would concern me, too! I did a quick Google on it, but couldn't find anything on why gloves are necessary to administer. Do let him know that you have stopped this med, though, because it is a part of Izzy's treatment. Perhaps there is another one that he can prescribe. Sucralfate coats the stomach and intestines, and can sometimes cause constipation . (When Grunt was on a bland diet, taking the Sucralfate, he didn't poop for 4 days....eventually, everything came out OK ) I know how nervewracking this is, and you have every reason to be concerned after what Izzy has been through. Hang in there, continue to watch her, and don't hesitate to call your vet if there's anything that concerns you. He is still treating Izzy, and any input from you would be helpful.

After Josi's second TPLO operation, she was very constipated from all the meds and tramadol and after five days of no poop, the vet suggested that I sprinkle some metamucil powder on her food and let me tell you it did the trick. Like others have said, I would make sure there is nothing else going on that could be causing this, but if not...it will do the trick. As far as the knee pain, how about asking your vet to prescribe you Metacam instead of Rimadyl. Metacam is also a NSAID so the dog does still need to be monitored if on it for over two weeks, but we had great success with it. I refused the Rimadyl prescription after Josi tore her first CCL due to all the adverse reactions, and the surgeon suggested Metacam which he said they tend to use more on smaller dogs. It is in a liquid form so you give it in a syringe and Josi loved the taste. The anti-inflammatory/pain reducer really seemed to make a difference for her pre and post op. I also have suggested the Metacam route to other mom's that have gone through the TPLO and they also liked the outcomes. Obviously another NSAID my not be the answer for Izzy until they determine what caused the illness, but just a thought that maybe you can talk over with vet.

They told me there is new research that this is also true if you touch the pill. I guess they told me to wear gloves (they gave me some) since I am of childbearing years. The vet told me I could stop giving it to her, because it can cause diarrhea, I didn't just stop it. I am going to see if she can come off the other one since I think its causing her constipation. I don't think she has much of it left anyway. To go from diarrhea to constipation.... poor girl. I put a few pieces of her food in tonight in her rice and chicken (they eat Innova EVO). She didn't get sick from it. I am going to put a little more tomorrow and so on, and hopefully that gets things moving. It's been three days since she has been home, so they said 5 days with the bland diet, but I count tuesday too, cause she was eating bland stuff there. When I feed her, she looks like those poor dogs you see on animal planet that are starving to death, when they give them food, how they eat it, thats how she is eating. She never ever ate like that. I feel so bad for her.

I will keep everyone posted and let you know when she poo's. LOL.

I am afraid to give her any NSAID's, but thank's for the info. I know there is something natural thats an anti-inflamatory, but I can't think of what it's called. Izzy tore both her CCL's (not sure if you already know this). The one that is bothering her now is the one she had surgery on Sept 11, 2007. They are not sure if she tore her meniscus now. She is suppose to be resting, and that is why she was on the Rimadly and Tramadol. Now she isn't on either. Sorry if I am repeating myself.

Sweet Sweet Izzy. I'm so glad to hear that her test results came back and it was great news! Hoping her system works itself out and she has a solid poo! Sending hugs!

YAH, Izzy made a poo. I couldn't tell if it was really runny, but it looked kinda mushy. It wasn't very much either. It's dark out and she wanted to go on the side yard, so I couldn't really see it.

RolenKisses: Gus is back to his normal CRAZY self. He is so happy she is home.... he hasn't left her side. He tries to lay as close to her as possible. I am about to post some pictures of him in the "show off your dog" forum, so check them out.

I am so glad that Izzy is feeling better and her test came back with good results. Now that Izzy is on the mend, I hope that you let yourself get a little rest too.

It's a HUGE relief that she is getting better. We just have to get her knee feeling better now and hope she doesn't need any more surgery on that.

Izzy has diarrhea again :( I did give her a few pieces of her food last night, so I guess I will hold off on that for a few more days. Maybe I just gave her regular food too soon. It was very runny and kinda the yellowish/orange color, but not as bright as it has been. Sorry for the details. I am at work right now, and I can't wait to get home to her. She looks like she is losing more weight and it scares me because she was already thin to begin with. I might take her by the vet to weigh her. My vet said not to worry about her weight because we can worry about putting it back on later, but I worry. It's just so hard to get and keep weight on her. She was down to 54 pounds tuesday, and I think she may have lost another pound or 2. She is 23.5 inches tall. She was up to 57 pounds and still slender. When they are already skinny, every pound makes a difference.
