Hi All,

I know I am foolish to have allowed my 6 month old on bed for a few times when he wasn't keeping well. And now, he claims the bed as his. If missus tries to ask him down or tries to take him down, he snaps back. Any suggestions how should we encourage him to sleep on his bed and not ours.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Cheers.

Why is the mrs "asking" him down? Tell/instruct/command him off - don't give him any choices. Gotta dig deep. You can help with this. Physically removing him from the bed yourself won't teach/do what you're looking to do. He's got to get off himself. Is he crate trained? Possible to crate him for nights? Going to take a long time in this new routine but he'll learn.

When he is on the bed have a treat for him let him smell and say OFF perhaps with a handsignal. When he gets on the floor give him the treat, immediately as all paws are down. Repeat often and he will learn that OFF means better than staying in bed. After a while fade the treat and replace with praise or toy and I think he will respond well to OFF. Be aware that he can then never be allowed on the bed again. Worth a try I think.....good luck

Solved!

Hey All,

Apologies for late reply. So over the last weekend, we got him a new bed and start giving him treats and praises whenever he would sleep on it. Now, he understands his place to sleep is his bed and not ours. He sometimes still comes onto our bed but goes down immediately when told him to do so.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.
