It only takes one tick to infect your precious baby with Lyme Disease. How do I know?? Well Kimber was tested positive tonight to a Lyme Disease test...
Friday he was acting like he strained a muscle in his back leg, but he still continued to play all day, as well as eat & drink normally. This morning he woke up and was very stiff in the back end (both legs) & he had a hard time keeping weight on his legs. He couldnt get up in time to go outsde to potty, in fact he peed on my couch. He wouldnt take his treats. I knew something was seriously wrong. I called my Vet, however they could not get him in, but would call me if someone cancelled, or didnt show. I am only 10 minutes from the vet's office.
Since I recieved no phone call by 3:30pm, I proceeded to take him to the ER Vetrinary Hospital. They tested Kimber and his test came back positive for Lyme disease, only very faintly, but still positive. They asked if he was on any Flea & tick preventitive, I said yes Frontline, all my animals are. Next they asked if I pulled any ticks off him, I again said yes, just ONE, last month.
They asked if I vaccinated for the Lyme Disease, I once again said Yes, but only that Rayne had gotten it, and that she was due again in June, and my vet suggested to wait untill then to do the series of shots at one time for the both of them, and get them on the same schedule.
My little Kimber must now go thru 6 weeks of Doxicycline treatments, followed by vaccinations for Lyme Disease, then tested again in 6 months. Please, Please Please watch your babies closely!!!!
I must say that I did really like the Dr. & Staff at the ER Hospital, they all got down on the floor w/ Kimber & talked to him & w/ me before going straight into the exams, they wanted Kimber & I to both feel comfortable. I was, and Kimber relaxed and became more at ease as well. First the Dr. said Lyme Disease or displaced disc. They were all so nice and looked at every avenue possible, we were there for 4 hrs.....
So I guess I just wanted to let everyone know how important is is to make sure you have your babies vaccinated for Lyme Disease. I thought I was going to lose my baby boy today. The Dr. said it was caught in time & we are going to treat him, and get him back to his normal self.
