is this normal?

Just wondering..not that I would change anything in the world, but I have had this white boxer for over a month but since day one he has been so good around my 10mth old baby. A couple of my friends have puppies from the same litter and I must say that I am extremely uncomfortable with those dogs around my son..they jump, bite, 'box', bark and everything else you can think of..Boomer is the complete opposite.
Is it a white boxer thing that he is so calm? I mean he puts up with alot. I recently caught my son pulling the pup's lips and nose thru the baby gate and biting his nose and the puppy simply laid there and took it LOL..

I have noticed that most whites that I see are the same very laid back and calm. Should I expect the worst when he gets older? will his temperment change the older he gets?

Hi there! I too have a white boxer and she is also perfect around children, especially babies. With everyone else she is hyper and jumps and after a while will start with the chewing of fingers, but with babies she is so gentle and just licks them!

I have heard it is a typical boxer trait, not specifically the whiteys. Can't imagine they would change when they get older, but as mine is only a baby too I don't know as yet!

My boy is fawn and couldn't be more gentle with kids. He is also very very laid back and just goes with the flow of how everyone else is acting. My 3 year old has accidently fallen on him a number of times and he obviously flinches but that's it. He'll pretty much let her do anything to him. I definitely wouldn't say it's a color thing but more a boxer thing.

My Cody is a fawn and is very gentle with kids and babies especially. He loves babies of all species (human, dog, cat). Aniah is really shy around kids except for hers (DS) she loves him to death, but she tends to stay away from the neighbors kid.
I would say that the majority of Boxers, regardless of color love children and from what I have heard here on BW they tend to know how to behave according to size of the kid .

It's not a "white" thing, just a personality thing Sounds like you got lucky to have ended up with such a laid back pup! Boxer adults are known to be great with children, but boxer puppies, especially under the age of 1, are usually pretty rambunctious. It's also possible that the other pups in the litter aren't getting the same training/socialization that your guy is getting since he has the benefit of being around your child a lot of the time.

We are guessing he was born sometime in early June...the 'backyard breeder' I got him from said the mother just walked out of the yard and was gone for 3 days he had no idea she came home and had them under his shed. He was born to a litter of 12-3 of which died to the flies..Boomer was one of 2 whites in the litter and my heart just melted...he was so timid and was definitely the punching bag of the litter. Scratches, bite marks tears in his ears and a puncture wound on his back likely from another pup..his face was back to back scabs is was ver sad...he was free because the guys couldn't sell them without papers but like I said he has the calmest personality from all the pups I saw..He never barks inside only to our neighbors through our fence out back. He wont go out into the front yard without us and is very leary about strangers outside but not inside he loves everyone..

I too feel "blessed" with my white puppy Although not a puppy anymore (she's 2 [size=-2]1/2[/size] now) she was REALLY good as a youngster. Easily trained, not overly crazy/hyper, and INCREDIBLY sweet. Of course she's had her moments -- I have lost a few pairs of shoes over the years -- but she's never chewed furniture, never counter-surfed, never tried to escape the backyard, always stays with us when she's off-leash, etc. Overall she was an "easy" puppy and is becoming a really, really good dog. I hope and pray every day that the next pup we get is just as easy!

I would lean towards a boxer thing and training. When they get in large groups, especially puppies, the pack mentality takes charge.
My two were really carefull around my nephew's, one was 3, the other was 9, at the time. Now I have another nephew that is 10 months and both pups met him a few months ago with no issues. Just curiousity when he cried.
Both have been to parties were friends have brought their kids, all ages, and never met my babies before with any problems. Including one litlle boy that was "slapping" err petting Kilbane on his chest while laying down. Kilbane just let out his "boxer sigh" and gave the boy a kiss here and there.
It should be noted that there are NO children in my Home, except for Jazzy, Kilbane, and Myself. LOL

It's a boxer thing, they are very good with children. Our son has lived with 3 boxers now and they have all been super with him.

I think it is largely a breed trait although of course socialization and training do play a part. Hurricane has always been extremely good with kids and he was NOT raised around them. He seems to have a 6th sense of what is ok behavior around little people. Of course I would never leave him unsupervised with a child, but I don't really have to worry about him either. It is soooo sweet watching him with a baby too, and every single one he has met just adores him.... something about the big brown eyes and soft fur and squishy face maybe....?
