Oh, No....Do you know what I'm in big need of some help....I'm digusted with myself...You might all know of my quest to give up the fags..I've been a smoker for 30 years, quite heavy I'd say, I was smoking 20 - 30 a day...I stopped on the 7th January, and have been so proud of myself, not a puff have I had for three whole weeks...If you have never smoked, you won't know how hard it's been..I've suffered, I've been to social occasions, and though I've been tempted, I've had an iron will and resisted...I've had lighted fags waved under my nose, and though I've wanted, oh so badly to have a puff, just one puff, I didn't give in....'Till today..I'd better tell you how my weekend has been before I tell you of how bad I've been...

With all this extra cash, me and the old man have from not feeding the old nicotine monster, I've been out on a spending spree...I bought a beautiful new double oven, and a new slate floor for the kitchen...Today, the old man has been attempting to lay the new floor....Because of the way our home is laid out, me and Millie have been trapped in the living room, unable to move, as all the contents of the kitchen are blocking the hallway, fridge, washing machine, dryer, and said new oven are stopping us from getting anywhere (including the bathroom)..Oh I so want a wee!!!, and I'm hungry, and dying for a cup of tea...

The old man is taking up the whole place with an assortment of very loud power tools, and a temper so vile, that me and Mills are quaking, as he effs and blinds out there to the sound of breaking slate.....I decided to do the ironing, and make my forced 'imprisonment' at least productive if not enjoyable...Well that was the idea...Faced with a weeks worth of ironing, a full bladder, and dying of starvation, while shaking at the racket he's making on the other side of the door, and wondering if I will have any kitchen appliances left, after his temper has died down.. I plugged in my steam generator iron, that is only four weeks old...And the bugger blew up!!!..So there I was with a mountain of crumpled clothes on the sofa a dead iron,, a Boxer that is bored stiff, and looking for a way to make mischief, and, me still in my dressing gown, unable to get to the bedroom, even to get a pair of clean knickers.....I delved in my pocket to find a tissue, to wipe my eyes of the tears that were threatening to spill out...And what do I find??...A lighter, and two fags!!!!..You can guess the rest....I lit up, It stunk so bad, and made me all light headed...But I smoked not one, but both of those nasty, two stale fags...I'm so sad, I've bawled my eyeballs out at my weakness..I'm not an ex smoker anymore, and am back to day one...How stupid am I???...I hate the old man at the moment..It's all his fault..I feel tempted to go punch his lights out for pushing me so far that I've given in!!

So you fell off the wagon. Don't let it defeat you, just get back on. An occasional relapse happens. When you can get into the rest of the house, I would have a good look around and make sure that there are no more fags, lying around waiting to catch you in a week moment.

Be strong Marion, you can defeat the evil monster. The longer you go the easier it will be.

Listen, It's ok, I smoked two packs a day for 20+ years, Ive quit for two years. ( Im big as a house, but who cares) :) Anyway, I feel you can't do this alone, just my opinion, theyre are more harmful, addictive chemicals in ciggarettes now than ever before, so your not just comming off the nicotine, your comming off of 4,000 carcinogens in ONE ciggarette!! Thats alot darlin!!! You can get patches?? It does cost some, but it's still cheaper than smoking, and they really, really work. I couldn't have done it w/o them. Give it a try huh? YOU CAN DO THIS! Remember, nobody smokes and beats the rap, you know what I mean.

I too have started smoking again :(
The child I look after (I work as a teaching assistant at a school) was moving to another town, hence new school etc, this was dropped on us only a week before they were leaving. I was only put onto 32 hrs a week as he needed full time 1 to 1 support and I thought my hours would go back down to 17.5 what I originally was on or even worse than that I wouldn't have a job (our budget sucks) Even going back to 17.5 hours would be a big drop in money and I so hated only working 17.5 hours a week but loved my job.

Anyway I was called into the heads office and told my hours would stay the same, I was so elated I came home and had one of my friends ciggies and the ret as they say is history.
Maybe I'll try again in the summer when the smoking ban in pubs etc starts :o

Dear Marion..don't take this as defeat!! Get back on that wagon and do it again!! I had a drag or two..but I see it like this..even dieters slip up and have a cookie, or some fattening food they shouldn't. Does it mean they wrecked their whole diet and have accomplished nothing? nope,. it means they had an error in judgement..that one cookie did not add those lost pounds back on..so that cig or two or 3 or whatever did not make you a smoker again!! It did not add back in all the good that came out when you quit!!

Don't say you are starting at day one, you're not. See it as if you were at the bar/pub and were inhaling 2nd hand smoke..would you say you were no longer a nonsmoker for that reason? Then you are not a smoker for having one or two. See all the good you have done for yourself in the weeks you haven't smoked than all the "bad" you think you did today smoking 2..

Ok! Stop feeling sorry for yourself lady! You ARE a nonsmoker! You have/will beat that nasty nic monster. You made a bad judegment and thats all there is to that. Nothing can be done about those 2..but YOU can do something about any future ones :) Oh and that it made you lightheaded and you really didn't enjoy it is a good thing!

Love ya sweetie..both you and I will get through this.

You quit once, you can do it again. You are not starting from scratch. You know what it feels like to be able to smell other things, and breath better. Think about those things and give it another go.

I think it would be a mistake to just throw in the towel. Two cigs is a mis-step you are NOT back to square one. Every advenure has a few detures. Think of it like being on a diet. Sure it is not great to have a donut, or two but far better to get back to the carrot sticks than hi jack the whole bakery.

Keep going.

P.S. Is there an empty milk jug you can empty your bladder in?

Don't get discouraged. I quit just over 2 years ago. I used the patches and went to see a doctor. The 1 thing that helped me is the doctor told me all cravings last only 7 seconds so if you have a craving stop count to 7 and you will be past it. I still want one every once in a while but I would never take another puff. I gained a lot of weight but now I'm working on losing that as well. Just start over. They say that it takes 48 hours to get the chemicals out of your system. Anytime after that it is out of habit that you want it. Good Luck to all of you!

A friend once told me she got through quitting when everytime she got a craving she would go for a walk to distract herself and by the end of it she'd forgotten about lighting up and as a bonus had tricked herself into excercising. She was a little shocked at how out of breath she was at first but the more she did it the better she felt and soon enough she could go for longer walks which she was now enjoying and didnt want cigs anymore.

I smoked when I was a teenager, my dad smoked all his life, many packets a day. 1year after he quit he had a massive stroke directly linked to smoking, he was 50yrs old. Seeing your parent on life support and supporting them while they learn to talk, walk and eat again is a very hard kick in the pants to make you quit. I never touched them since.

Dont wait til its too late, get straight back on the wagon and dont let it get you down. You CAN do this. Time, Patience, Effort. And remeber we are all behind you. Goodluck, I think DH has some ironing to do too!
