We live on an Army post with very strick pet policies. The most important one is picking up the poop. Well, there is one family that owns a Rottie that never picks up the poop. My main issue is that since I am the only one with two dogs, I am very visible on post walking my dogs quite often. I don't want people to think that my boxers are the problem.

I have started picking up all of their poop piles (quite obvious since all other dogs besides mine are of the smaller breeds). Well, today I noticed that not only does their dog have worms, it also ate a gold ring. I picked the ring out and tied it up in a seperate poop baggie. Should I go up to them and offer it back, or would that be an insult? It would go something like this "I found this ring in a pile of your dog's crap that you 'forgot' to pick up."

What do you guys think I should do?

 I think that would be an EXCELLENT way to handle it! Brilliant! Genius! And so very tactful all at the same time.

After all, if they want the ring back, and if it's a gold ring they probably do, they have to admit they don't clean up after their dog...polite conversation and suggestion to follow at this point.

If they say it's not their doggy-do, well...you are an incredibly nice neighbor, look out for shiny diamonds in future piles.

The smarty pants side of me would say to deliver the bag of poop and the ring to their doorstep with a note explaining that they need to be more careful when they pick up their poop because they apparently missed a pile.....The nice side of me, well to be honest I dont know how the nice side of me would diplomatically handle that...

i guess they would wonder what you were doing going through their dog poo...so i would say you missed your dog messing the other day so i picked it up after you and found this!!

I would first ask them if they lost a gold ring... then when they tell you yes and get all excited about it, you can kindly mention you found it in a pile of their dogs poop that they never pick up. Since you all have to live in close proximity, I'd bite my tongue and remain diplomatic. I probably also would mention it appears the dog has worms... oh, and you won't be cleaning up after them any more!

I would keep it also. If they were picking up after their dog they would have fount it! Finders keepers...Losers weepers I say!!!!!

LMAO. OK first off how nice is the ring. If it's super nice then I say keep it. Secondly EWWWEEE. LOL.
But I probably (if I was definately sure this was a certian dogs poop.) Go to them and say that In cleaning up after there dog, I noticed this ring sticking out of the poop. (Still in the baggie of poop no less) Thought you might like it back and I just thought I would let you know that you should get your dog to a vet as he or she has worms and that I will no longer be cleaning up the poop (although it is your job to do). But in a really nice voice and a big fat smile.

 Brave woman! I'd have picked it all up, and left the ring where it was! I'd have taken the whole bag round and said, "Is this your dog's poop?"

Presumably, they'd deny it, and I would say "Oh, good ! appicon - it must be MINE then, One of my dogs must have swallowed a gold ring! Isn't this my lucky day????"
