I have a new boxer boy named "chuy". We want him to be an indoor/outdoor dog, and to go outside on command. How do we accomplish this, without confusing the dog?
when we first got him he would stay outside by the back door, even when the door was open he wouldn't come in(at the breeder's house the parents were mainly outside dogs), he was about 7 weeks old. at about 9 weeks we started letting him come in the house, but he still went out on his own, not sure if it was right. (we should've rewarded him for that). and now he is 12 weeks, he does go outside under command on occasion. he will sit by the door when it is open, at which point we reward him....but other times he just doesn't wanna hear us tell him to go out. and if he is outside he will rush in as soon as the door is opened. I can sense he knows the command, just doesn't always obey it.
Is there a good method to teach him to follow in/out?
my friend had a boxer who did this, so i'm assuming it can be taught.
