Coco'smommy

Boxer Insane
Ok, here goes....Coco is insanely happy to see new people. When someone comes to our house to visit she cannot hardly control herself. She does the wiggly butt, snorting, rubbing, loving, jumping crazy boxer welcome. I think it's normal for her. My husband doesnt...he thinks she's misbehaving and he says he doesn't like it when other peoples dogs get all over him like that and he doubts anyone else likes ours on them either. Sometimes we put her in the kennel when folks come to visit for awhile until she has calmed a bit then let her out. That's okay but I feel like we're not teaching her anything by just putting her away, at the same time, I don't want him hollering at her to get down and get off every time someone comes by. So tell me, is this normal, will she outgrow it eventually, should we be crating her when someone is over...just looking for some input.

Do a search in the dog training forums on jumping, and you should find a ton of advice that's been given in the past on how to deal with it and teach your dog an alternative greeting behaviour. Having any guests or people you meet steadfastly *ignore* your dog until she behaves calmly is invaluable help in training her.

Also, get yourself a copy of Jan Fennell's book "The Dog Listener". It's a great resource for dog training and managing behaviour :)
