I need your help! We have been through so much with samus and her broken toe and it just keeps getting worse. First of all, she has had a cast (splint) on for 3 weeks. It has been replaced 2x's now. the first 2, one broke and the other was bending. They todld us when we first put it on that she would be fine in a few days, running around like normal. They never really told us to keep her immobile. SoWhen we went Sat to get it replaced for the 2nd time, she took the cast off and her leg was all red and she was in a lot of pain. So she cleaned her foot (it was so dirty) and said that she was going to let it air out until monday because it seemed infected and she wanted it to heal. So we had to keep her immobile for the weekend. Chris dropped her off at the vet yesterday morning. When we called they said she was fine. When we picked her up, they told him that she also now has a fractured wrist and it is infected. (they also tried to tell him it was like that in the beginning but the conviently couldnt find her x-rays) they had never mentioned fractured wrist before. Anyways they gave us antibiotics and put a new cast on her and told us not to let her move basically. Then last night she was acting very strange and her lymph nodes were swollen. So Chris called this morning and had to take her back in because they were scared the infection had spread. Well, chris called and they told him they were doing blood work on her to see if it had spread and then they said they didnt know why the fracture was infected that they might have to send us to a bone specialist. (did I mention that we are supposed to go on vacation tommorow???:( ) Has anyone ever heard of this before and does it seem like the vet has been jerking us around? I liked our vet until all this but it seems as if they are being very reactive instead of proactive. Has anyone ever taken their boxer to a bone specialist before? I am very worried about our baby and it seems as if the vet is just humoring us.... I dont know.... Help!

I think you should take your baby to a new vet for a second opinion. It dosn't sound like your current vet cares as much about your dog as the money he is getting to fix your dog.
It's horrible to think a vet would only care about money but I have had this problem once before. My old vet kept doing blood tests on my baby because she wasn't gaining weight very fast and her urine had too much water not enough protine. This went on for months with no diagnosis. Every time she said there may be a diffrent problem and kept running tests. It ended up costing me over 500.00 bucks and when I went to my new vet he ran the same tests, got them back the next day and told me there was nothing wrong w/ her at all except a urinary track infection. Isn't that awful! I was very mad and upset I had put my baby thru all those tests.

sorry to hear about your baby.

it sounds like it's time to get a second opinion. My puppy, Rudy, has a cast on his leg right now for a leg fracture, but the Doctor's and tech vets have been overwhelmingly nice and easy to work with. I can't imagine what you are going through - a vet should make you confident and comfortable with your pet's health, not make you question the care they are receiving.

I hope everything works out!
