Hi all. I have not posted in a long time. I have an approximately three year old rescue boy, Blanco, who came to us in September from Puerto Rico. He is a fabulous guy! Until about a month ago he was a great eater. I had weaned him off kibble on to the raw I feed my girl and he was thriving.

So, around the time he seemed to lose interest in food we were walking and some kids set off firecrackers while we were crossing the street. He was so panicked and shook for the rest of the afternoon. As time went on he recovered but still remains a little skittish. It was around this time I noticed the food thing and that is not improving. A week ago we found a Mast Cell Tumor that has to be removed. He is on Benadryl to shrink it. All his bloods are good, negative for tic disease, Heartworm and his stool is clean.

I hate to go down the "coaxing" road but will if I need to. He will eat something "new" but then when I offer it again he refuses. My girl has been eating the same food happily so I know that is not the issue. He will take a cookie, but not always. He is happy, engaged, and sweet otherwise. Any thoughts, pearls of wisdom, etc. are much appreciated!

I wish I could offer you some good advice. I have never had a problem getting my boxers to eat. Only an occasional rumbly tummy when it's been too long since meals. Then something really stinky will convince them to eat.

Unless Blanco is really skinny, I wouldn't worry. He will eat when he gets hungry enough, just don't give any treats between meals.

Good luck!

My last boxer never ate much either for a little over a year. I went to the let and he said the same thing, her weight is fine and she will eat if she is hungry. The boxer I have now, will eat the stainless steel off the bowl if I would let her. Hopefully it is a fluke and not a health issue.

Both My first boxer and current have been slim eaters at times .... I too would get worried that they weren't eating enough but same a Lisa H said, when I asked the vet they said their weight was fine and not to worry ... I have noticed now that the weather is warmer Chance has changed his eating pattern. I free feed and let him eat when he wants. Winter time he usually will eat in the evening but now he prefers to eat in the morning .... he does most days eat all that I have given him but not always.... haha now if it is human food he will eat anytime it is offered ( I don't offer but bf gives him bites way to often for my liking - and yes he is very educated on the no no's of human food :) )

Thank you all for replying! And you were all correct. Of all a sudden he just started eating again-same food! But thanks again for the reassurance!
