I'm finally complaining about snow

It's been a long cold winter this year. The last three were so mild, I almost didn't mind the 'winter' season. This year is enough to make a good Canadian think about moving to a tropical climate.

As if last weeks dumping of snow wasn't enough, tonight we are due for another 20 cm. I feel like my spirit is buried under snow and frozen over with ice! Enough already! No more snow! I've got cabin fever, and it's starting to turn me nuts. How on earth does a person deal with this? Anyone have any good ideas on what a person with no car (hubby takes it to work), in a small rural town with freezing weather can do to ease the suffering? I'm about to call up the weathermen and tell them to change the forecast in order to save my sanity.

I feel for you! This winter has been incredibly cold in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg too. The temperature was -20C to -30C the whole December and the first half of January. Then it got a little warmer, but still below zero. And we have had a lot of snow this year too.

Now with the first spring days the weather is wonderful. The sun is shining every day and it's really warm ecxept the nights. When I walk Tina early in the morning and late at night it's freezing (about -10C) but in the day time it's very warm. So the snow is almost all gone

Thank you Russia! Send as much sunshine and warmth as you can. I can't believe that Russia is getting nicer weather than us - I always thought of Russia as much much colder than Canada. Guess not. I'll be looking north then for that delivery of sunshine..heh

We have had our fair share of snow here in NJ. As sick of looking at it as I am, my husband does snow removal and thanks to all of the extra $$ I just had central a/c installed in my house yesterday!

Here's what we did last weekend..

As we are practically neighbours, I feel your frozen pain!

Last weekend Trevor and I packed up Neil and went to the Ontario Science Centre. It'd been about 16-17 years since I'd been there last. Imagine my delight when I discovered they have a tropical rainforest room! It's full of tropical trees and plants and has a waterfall. It's also hot and humid to simulate tropical climate! I was so thrilled to walk in and be WARM, and to smell dirt again! We practically moved in!
The day before that (Saturday) I was playing in the backyard with Neil and Lara, and secretly surveyed the area and planned my garden for springtime.
We can only move forward from here! Just think, next month is April, when things start to thaw, snow turns to rain and the first of the wee crocuses start to pop up! Just chant and repeat after me "Not long now, not long now.."

I am afraid that I can't send any sun your way today as it is cloudy and rain is forecast, but.......we have had some very nice weather for the beginning of the year. Not much snow at all this season, they are forecasting snow flurries for the next few days but I will believe it when I see it! Not even lots of rain which is usual for us in the West. A few days ago I was in the garden and it was 14 degrees!
Marina, I can't imagine it that cold, I think that I would be like the animals and hibernate.

I understand what you are saying. I can imagine you being from Canada. I am dying for Spring to get here real soon. In New Jersey we got almost 30 inches this winter and that is a lot of snow for our area. Last year only got 4 inches and it was a lot warmer too. I am anxious for winter to get out of here, I want to spend time outside and plant flowers etc.

I shud have stayed in Florida, this really sucks, we have hardly no snow all winter and now were getting it all in one month!!!! Sick of looking at the stuff. At least let the sunshine! Tired of slush, shovelling, snowblowing and trying to walk the dogs in this Sh*t.

I am totally not a snow/winter fan, but I have to admit this winter has not got to me like other winters. I have forced myself this year to go outside daily, even if it is only for a few minutes. If it is too cold, Kailee does not go with me, so on those days, I walk down along Lakeshore and take in the unique boutiques. The need for sunshine is very strong in me, so on the days the sun is out there I am for sure soaking it up. On a sunny morning, I do sit on my balcony with my coffee and soak up the rays. I know this sounds idiotic, and I am sure the neighbors think I have lost my marbles, but I can honestly say it helps.
I have read the theraputic properties to visiting nurseries etc in winter, and the idea that neilsmom had about visiting the OSC rainforest is a great idea!! Hmmm.. I wonder if they would allow us BW members to have a picnic in their rainforest :D Filling your home with spring flowers helps, as does just opening up a window daily for a short time. March is the month we Canucks anxiously await spring, but it can be a long wait, so I do things "springy" to help pass the time away.

I can totally relate as I am very close to canada...and it's just as cold. Except it's too cold here to snow...it snows when a warm front comes in and those days are nicer than most. So we don't have terribly too much snow, but I'd rather have snow than these inhumane freezing temps!! Plus, imagine flat North Dakota...can you imagine the wind?? It makes the temp outside 100 times worse. A lot of people around here get seasonal depression, including my roommate and my sister. Everyday is cloudy and drab, which instantly puts me in a bad mood. Plus we have to walk around all over campus in this...I wear 3 pairs of pants and my legs and butt are still numb. If I'm in a room with lots of windows it helps...if there's sunshine, even better. But sorry, I can't think of much else to help with this cabin-fever, I could use some ideas too! After school...I'm outta here!!!

But on a lighter note...spring is coming sometime soon (I hope) I can't wait for the days of being on the lake all day, tank tops, and flip flops!!! :cool:
