Boxer Insane
Hi all, my name is Meghan, I am 26 years old and have owned Boxers now for, oh almost 7 years now. Our first Boxer was a flashy fawn that we got from a rescue in 2001, Lucas, who we were told was 6 months old when we got him (although I think he was closer to 2 years old), we had him for 6 1/2 years, had a baby while we had him, moved across country while we had him, he was a fabulous dog and turned us into HUGE Boxer lovers. He was around 82 pounds in his prime with no fat on him whatsoever. He was never sick a day in his life and then one night in early January 2007 he started having cluster seizures and that was the beginning of the end. We battled with him long and hard until August 22nd, 2007 when he could no longer walk and we had to put him to sleep. We're 99% sure he had a brain tumor, but he was a true Boxer 'til the end still trying to walk and get up and be there even though he couldn't. We all miss that boy.
We adopted Erin, a flashy fawn Boxer girl, in January 2006, she's around 65 pounds (good weight for her), and unfortunately has Valley Fever, is hypothyroid, and has a degenerative knee problem that is starting to turn into early arthritis. She is approximately 6-7 years old and is a very good girl. She is as sweet as pie gets along with everyone and everything and through all of her problems just stays as sweet as ever.
After we lost Lucas, we were considering getting a Boxer puppy from a rescue, however the rescue I foster for (I also foster for a Boxer rescue) told me about a breeder friend of hers (reputable) that just had a litter and there was a white boy with brindle patches on his eye and ears and she just wanted him to have a good home. So we went to look at him and I absolutely fell in love. So, Tyson was born on July 21, 2007 and we brought him home September 15, 2007 and he is now 9 months old doing well (minus a bout with "stress induced colitis"), growing like a weed and at 9 months old is around 60 pounds, they estimate he'll be probably 80-85 full grown...guess we'll just have to wait and see. But he is the sunshine in my life, especially after losing Lucas that is for sure.
As I mentioned above I also foster for a Boxer rescue and truly enjoy doing that as well.
I also have a human son who is 6 1/2 years old and will be graduating Kindergarten in a few weeks. I have been married for the past almost 8 years to a wonderful man. We're originally from California but spent 5 years in Louisiana while he was in the Army, then when he got out we built a house and moved to Arizona where we are now. He is a Highway Patrol Officer and I am a Home Transcriptionist and full time mommie. We also have 2 DSH kitties, Raven and Tiger who are both around 8 years old (both rescues so not 100% sure).
Okay I think that's it in a long nutshell. I am very much looking forward to posting here and reading here and am very glad I found this forum.
