Eddie is not happy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok it is on him, I am pretty sure I did it right. At first OH MY he went nuts!! Bucking and pawing and jumping. The nose piece isn't too tight at all, the neck I can fit 1 finger through. I don't think it is too tight around his neck because he is able to eat his treat that I am giving him. He has calmed down, his eyes are red he is so upset, his head is laying here in my lap, his heart is pounding.......I feel so bad:(
I tried to put the leash on him but I think it was too soon cause he just froze and wouldn't move, so I took the leash off. How long should I leave the collar on? Now that he is calm should I just leave in on for awhile?? When should I try to walk him??
Thanks for all the help, and you too Sharon, I read through the sites you posted.

Chief reacted the same way at first he was very upset with me, but the petsmart person who put it on for me showed me to walk forward and give a small tug and that he would follow and he did. After about 10 minutes he seemed to accept his new collar, every once in awile he still tries to paw at it but nothing like in the very beginning. I really felt bad at first too. When I first took it off of him and tried to talk to him and give him treats he just turned his head away from me and would not even accept the treats which for Chief means that he is really mad, it wasn't till a few hours later that he forgave me. But I'm really glad I stuck with it because now I feel comfortable taking him with me wherever I go without worrying about him pulling me everywhere. Good luck to you let us know how it goes. :D

Happy Update: Well we walked around the block today. Went quite well too. He did not pull me at all!! He did stop every once in awhile to paw at the collar for a minute. I will stick to around the block for a few days and see how it goes. But so far so good. I think you just let me in on the best product in the world! Thank you so much!!! I have been walking Eddie for 5 years and getting very sore arms and hands!! Not any more!! This is great!fiestaicon

Pierpoint

Boxer Booster
I bought mine at the Vet who also fitted it for me. It has to be snug around his nose due to the flatness, otherwise he could slide it off with his paw or by rubbing his face on the grass. It has been a godsend although Bailey hates it. I don't use it as much anymore since he no longer pulls but if he reverts back, I always have it in my pocket. And sometimes I have to put it on when approaching another dog as this is generally the only time he pulls now.

If I attempt to use it continuously, he'll just stop with his head down, eyes cast upwards as if to say "why must I wear this?". Then I have to coax him along. Or he'll rub his face on the grass trying to get it off. Or he'll just lie down on his side and refuse to move. It's like he's playing dead because I try to pick him up but he's a dead weight. Needless to say, it doesn't make for an enjoyable walk so I only use it when he needs it. I think he realizes that if he pulls, on it goes and this has really helped train him.

Just a selection choice for everyone. There is also a collar similar called the Halti. I have used one for my Dalmatian and I think it is pretty much the same design. If you can't find the Gentle Leader look for Halti.

fiestaicon Yippeeeeee!!!!!

I have been having a real hard time with Zoey on the leash. I finally got her to sit stay while putting the leash on and taking it off, but we are still working on the heel command. In fact, now that I think of it, Ozzie only walks properly if I put his collar up high on his neck so that it is just behind his ears. I am also trying to train them not to jump on visitors. I have started ignoring them for about 2 or 3 min when coming in the door. This has helped for me, but anyone else who comes through the door immediately gets a "hug". LOL! Sounds like the GL will help me out a lot. I will give it a try with both of my babies and let you know how it goes.

Bosco'sMom

Super Boxer
Gentle Leader

This sounds like something I should try on my Cocker Spaniel as well. He pulls me worse than Bosco does, but I am sure Bosco will get worse as he is only 3 months old now. Thanks everyone for the info!

Took Ozzie to be weighed today (thought he was looking a little thin). Was gonna head out to PetSmart afterwards to have him fitted, but didn't have to! I asked the technician about them and she said they were great and by the way we sell them. She fitted him right there on the spot. He wasn't as proud of his new gear as I was, but he settled down within 10 min. It was a little harder to get him to the car, and even harder to get him in. He looked like a circus doggy jumping and wriggling around! I left it on for about 5 min when we got home, then praised him, gave him a treat and took it off (while he was calm). Later, I took him outside and walked around the backyard with it on just to see how he would do. Maaaaaaaauuuuuuvolous! He did everything on command just like a champ! I can't believe he took to it so quickly. I'm gonna wait until Zoey has her pups to try one on her. Thanks for the tip :D!

P.S. Technician said his weight was fine and that he looked beautiful! She can't wait to see the puppies!
