my pup was starting to do that, then...

My girl, Katanna, she was starting to pull, but then we put her into Shutzund, which was just the obedience first, and now she is walking healing, all nice, and our trainer told us, if we went to a basic obedience trainer that she wouldn'tbe doing as good, and it would not be tought as well, as we have been tought. So i advice you to take the shutzund obedience with you boxer.

 I too love the gentle leader. Bailey hated it. I would get as far as the front of the house and he would lie down and not move. So I'd go to him and try to pick him up to set him on his feet but he acted like a dead wait. Finally he'd walk a bit -then put the brakes on. He really hated it. What could have been a 10 minute walk turned into an hour. So I finally took it off because I wanted to get home. He walked like an angel. All I have to do now is take it with me. It's amazing the difference in him. Sometimes now I'll have to whip it on if I see another dog coming our way - he's a bit aggressive towards other dogs - wants to play. I've tried but there's really nothing I can do. Even the Vet said that all I can really do is stop and put him in sit and wait for the other dog to pass. Never scold because then he'll associate seeing other dogs with being scolded or "leash aggression" I think. And the Vet fitted Bailey's collar - I probably wouldn't have figured it out - as he too said that if he gets it off the first time, then it's very hard to break that habit of trying.

Wow! I have actually gotten excited reading all of your experiences. I am a little afriad because if Psi is upset then I tend to turn to mush but the thought of being able to walk him and him not walk me is very appealing. I just posted a thread on how to control him around strangers and this might help me alot. Do the previous Gentle Leash owners suggest that I take him to Petsmart to get fitted or can I just buy it myself and follow the fitting instructions? I want this to be the least amount of discomfort for him (and as a result myself) as possible.

I also use a Gentle Leader for my boxerbitch Nika. Not because she pulls at te leash, but because she snaps at other dogs when she is on the leash.
It helps me to control her and I hope to get her behaviorproblem out of her.
Nika hates the GL. She won't pee when she's wearing it!

Nika has a shorter nose then most boxers. The neck-collar fits greately, the muzzle bit is somewhat too wide, because otherwise she gets trouble breathing.

I gotta try one

I need one of those... I tried a choker collar... this one was rated for a 100lb dog.... he broke thought it. I have bent several clasps on leashes... I have nothing to lose by trying one of these... maybe I can get my arm back:)

Quincy has the Halti and it has been a lifesaver!!!!!! Before, his dream was to be the lead dog in the Iditarod sled race!! Now walks are fun for both of us. Yes, he fought it tooth and nail when he first got it and now it's really no big deal. The first 5 min he scratches at it and shakes his head but then he forgets all about it. It was a HUGE plus at obedience because I could lift his head and get his attention so easily. I HIGHLY recommed the Halti or Gentle Leader for each and every dog!!
