If allergic to Canidae, then what food?

Kaybie has been experiencing an allergic outbreak to something unknown so we are keeping her strictly on her Canidae and nothing else. If the allergic reaction doesn't clear up, then she might be allergic to the Canidae. Two questions, if she is allergic to it, how long should I give it to clear up......the vet is saying to give it 2 weeks and then see.........and question number two is if she is allergic to it, what is another good quality food that I can switch her to???? Thanks

I'd say 10 days to 2 weeks should be long enough for the ingredients to totally clear the system. Rotate to a food using something other than chicken for its protien source. You may want to try one of the grainless varieties. I haven't heard too many dogs being allergic to Canidae but it can happen. I'm partial to the Timberwolf Organic varieties.

Yeah, I don't personally think it's the Canidae but I can't figure out what it might have been. So we are feeding her only Canidae for now until we can get her system cleared out. Can you give me some suggestions for good food that doesn't have chicken as the meat source? I really want to keep her on Canidae but I just want to have backup options if this doesn't clear up. Thanks.

Visit the Timberwolf Organics web site. They have all their varieties listed with descriptions. I order direct. Don't let the prices scare you. the shipping is included. The feeding rates are usually lower too. I haven't compared them to Canidae though. My 3yo Chancey gets @2.5 cups a day and stays at @ 67lbs.

It's good to rotate protein sources every month or two....

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. I want to find a few good foods that I like and then start rotating. I am going to try to get her healthy first and then start rotations. Thanks for the advice, I really really appreciate it.

Whoa, I know you warned me, but the prices still scared me! They are much higher than Canidae. I get a 40 pound bag of Canidae for only aprx $36. Their 33 pound bags of TO are over $50.......whoa

Solid Gold???

In knowing that my local store sells Solid Gold brand foods, would any of those varieties be better than the others to try? I was thinking either the Hund-n-Flocken Adult Dog (lamb) or Mmillennia Beef & Barley Adult or WolfKing Adult Dog (bison). Are any of these better than the others? Also, Kaybie is almost 10 months old, so it's ok to put her on adult food rather than puppy food right? Thanks.

LOL-check the feeding guidelins. I think you'll feed less so the bag gives you more meals. It's worth it.
