We're deep frying our turkey this year so there won't be any drippings. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to make dry gravy mix or jarred gravy taste more homemade.

Thanks and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

The "Better than Gravy" gravy mixes (manufactured by Superior Touch) make delicious gravy. Should be able to find it at your local grocery store (or do an amazon search, that's how I figured out the name). :)

If you want something that tastes MORE like homemade then I would nix the mixes and canned versions. I assume you can buy turkey stock (like chicken or beef) and use that. Could also do something more simple but just as good (IMO). Use a good flavorful chicken broth, butter and flour! I know other seasonings can be added but I have used this when in a pinch.
A quick Google search brought up this recipe. Seems pretty traditional as far as making gravy goes.
Gravy Recipe - How To Make Turkey Gravy

I'm personally NOT a fan of turkey gravy and always go the chicken route! :D

Iv heard of deep frying turky but have never got the chance to taste it or ask anyone about cooking it so what size of a turky are you cooking and how long do you gry it for and at what tempeture ( here in Ireland I think the roasting method is the most popular)

Well, since you have to deep fry it outdoors.........it's the guys' job to do it so I don't know all of the details. We girls are all inside preparing EVERYTHING ELSE! I do know that a deep fried turkey tastes fantastic and cooks much faster than roasting one in the oven. I'm sure you can find answers to your other questions online. Thank you for the Thanksgiving wishes.

We don't use mixes, but you can take the giblets, boil them and cake gravey from them instead of just turkey drippings :) Good luck!

Happy Thanksgiving! And deep fried turkey is YUMMY! We are smoking ours this year *drool* :)
